Who We Are

For more than 140 years, The Family Partnership has built strong families, vital communities, and better futures for children. We fulfill our mission through counseling, education, and advocacy, primarily in the greater Minneapolis and St. Paul area. The Family Partnership was founded in 1878 as the Minneapolis Humane Society to protect and serve children that were being abused or exploited. Along with a few name changes, our work has continually transformed to anticipate and address the evolving needs of families and individuals, many of whom are the most vulnerable in our community.

Wages and Benefits

$90,000 - $110,000 annual salary; $1,000 hiring bonus after 3 months of employment; Generous paid time off, plus 10 paid holidays; competitive health, dental, and vision insurance; health savings account (HSA), and options for flexible spending accounts (FSA). There is employer paid basic life insurance with the option for additional coverage paid by the employee. The employer pays for Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) and short and long-term disability insurance. TFP sponsors a retirement plan with a tiered vesting schedule based on years of service, plus a 2% employer contribution after one year of service.

SCHEDULE

This is a hybrid position that will require some in-person work 2-3 days per week.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as The Family Partnership's Controller provides an opportunity to manage the accounting operations for The Family Partnership, ensuring company accounting policies and procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles. Responsibilities will include the following:



  • Maintaining documented accounting policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining and monitoring the system of internal controls to minimize risks.
  • Managing all aspects of the general ledger.
  • Managing the month-end process, including the preparation of financial statements.
  • Assisting in the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
  • Working with the external auditors and providing needed information for the annual audit, including the full set of financial statements and notes.
  • Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Attending individual, team, and/or all-agency staff meetings as requested by management.
  • Contributing solutions to maintain or enhance operations, compliance, and internal controls.
  • Managing employee and team performance and effective employee relations.
  • Managing the hiring process for positions within this team.



Who You Are



  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field, or you have an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • You have five years or more of experience as a Controller or Accounting Manager; nonprofit experience is preferred.
  • You are proficient in accounting software (experience with Sage Intacct is preferred).
  • You have intermediate Excel experience at a minimum.
  • You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and have experience working across multiple levels, including the executive level.
  • You have the ability to analyze and reconcile financial information.
  • You can see and understand the full accounting implications of transactions and make sense of financial data.
  • You can clearly communicate complex financial information in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • You possess excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • You have excellent attention to detail.
  • You have excellent organization and project management skills.
  • You can manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously and accurately.
  • You have the ability to maintain client confidentiality.
  • You are able to work independently, collaborate, use good judgment, and motivate and lead others effectively.
  • It is preferable if you hold a CPA (active or inactive).
  • You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and can meet TFP's driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
