Works in a team environment to repair and maintain equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, and other production machinery while being knowledgeable and compliant with established Koppers Zero Harm policies and procedures related to daily work activities. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Strong automotive and diagnostic skills
- Diagnose complex mechanical and automotive system failures using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
- Perform precision repairs and overhauls on heavy-duty engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
- Lead root cause analysis for recurring equipment issues and implement long-term solutions to enhance reliability.
- Maintain and repair specialized industrial vehicles and rolling stock, including forklifts, loaders, and other transport trucks.
- Ability to work in the chemical plant environment and repair equipment on-site, ensuring operational continuity and safety compliance.
- Install and repair diaphragm, centrifugal, positive displacement and other types of pumps
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues as required
- Build and change equipment as required
- Repair and maintain all mechanical systems
- Operates and troubleshoots utilities and equipment as required
- Work in a safe and efficient manner always
- General Welding, including Mig, Tig, Oxygen/Acetylene, and Stick.
- General pipefitting skills
- Listen for unusual sounds from equipment to detect malfunction and discuss variations
- Actively work to reduce identified issues in team environment
- First response / evaluation of equipment failures
- Provide information needed for Maintenance Manager to dispatch technicians to effect repairs
- Pictures of Equipment data plate information to be entered into CMMS system
- Enter data gathered during work into CMMS
- Generate appropriate follow up work orders
- Provide training and guidance to other Maintenance Technicians
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Minimum7 years of progressive maintenance experience, with at least 3 years focused on automotive repair and diagnostics in an industrial or heavy equipment setting. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification (e.g., Master Technician status) or equivalent advanced mechanical certification strongly preferred. Proven expertise in automotive electrical systems, fuel injection systems, and computerized diagnostic equipment (e.g., OBD-II scanners, oscilloscopes). Demonstrate proficiency in the use of eMaint CMMS Strong troubleshooting skills (Mechanical) Good communication skills both verbal and written Able to perform mathematical equations necessary for position's essential duties Reliable transportation Able to work rotating shifts, be on call periodically, willingness to work one weekend a month, and be available for short or no notice overtime Maintain reliable method of contact Able to recognize and communicate to management any difficulties or problems as related to this position's essential duties and responsibilities Must be able to work within a team group environment to perform maintenance tasks
