Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Controller to oversee financial operations of our multidivisional organization specializing in Energy Efficiency, Engineering, Environmental Testing, HVAC, and Design. The Controller will manage the financial operations of the company, providing strategic input and oversight for the accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance functions. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will ensure financial integrity and operational efficiency across multiple divisions, aligning financial practices with the company's mission and long-term goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Manage all accounting/finance activities, including monthly close process, account reconciliations, cash management, billing, accounts payable and receivable.
  • Responsible for the preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Manage the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the CEO, CFO, and divisional leaders.
  • Monitor and analyze variances to budget, providing actionable insights to improve financial performance.
  • Prepare long-term financial forecasts to support strategic planning.
  • Manage and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, creativity, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide professional development opportunities, and support career growth for team members.
  • Lead the implementation or enhancement of accounting software systems, with a preference for experience in Acumatica or similar ERP platforms.
  • Ensure seamless integration of software with existing processes and provide training to the accounting team and other stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology for improved efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and other financial policies.
  • Manage external audits and coordinate with external advisors on tax planning and compliance.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate financial risks.
  • Function as a champion for the employee ownership culture by aligning financial strategies with the principles of an ESOP company.



Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience within accounting/finance.
  • At least 3-5 years in a supervisory or management role within an accounting department.


  • Experience in a multidivisional or project-based organization.
  • Strong technical accounting expertise and proficiency with financial systems and software.
  • Direct experience implementing and optimizing accounting software systems, with a strong preference for Acumatica.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
  • Effective communication and people skills to collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Industry experience in engineering, environmental services, construction, or related field is a plus.



Work Environment:

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

Positions Type and Expected hours of Work:

This is a full-time, on-site, position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday with specific hours to be mutually agreed upon.

Travel: There is no expected travel required for this position.
