BID/JOB ANNOUNCEMENT SUPERVISING OF BRIDGE OPERATOR CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION # of positions: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $62,568; Grade: W-12 Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59 pm CDT on Thursday, April 3, 2025. This position is open to the public and all current city employees covered under the City's Collective Bargaining Agreement with the OPERATING ENGINEERS-Local 150 (Bridge Operators) - BU 31. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid. Under general supervision, working a rotating shift supervises staff of stationary and roving Bridge Operators engaged in operating control equipment for the lifting and lowering of electrically operated bascule drawbridges located on the Calumet River and the Chicago River, and performs related duties as required ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Reviews daily manpower power reports and makes work assignments to stationary and roving Bridge Operators to ensure proper manning of bridge houses (e.g., 5 bridges on Calumet River and 32 bridges on Chicago River) during assigned shift
Additional duties may be required for this position. Location: 3124 S. Sacramento Days/Hours: Monday - Friday; 6:00 am - 2:30 pm THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS Three years of work experience operating electrically operated bascule drawbridge machinery and equipment; A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required. *Must have the permanent use of an automobile that is properly insured, including a clause specifically insuring the City of Chicago from accident liability*. NOTE: You must also provide your valid U.S. driver's license at time of processing. SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This position requires candidates to pass a skills test and complete an interview. Test results will be sent out by the Department of Human Resources after test results have been compiled and analyzed. Applicants who receive a passing score on the test will be selected to interview. The interviewed candidate(s) receiving a passing score on the test and possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral interview and written exercise, will be selected for hire.
