Position Summary: The custodial assistant keeps buildings clean and orderly. Performs heavy cleaning duties, including cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing trash. Position Reports to: Facilities Manager
Essential Job Functions/Duties:
Clean public areas, including classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and lobbies
Wipe countertops and tables; clean windows; move furniture; and clean furniture and decorative objects in common areas
Dispose of trash and recyclables
Vacuum carpets; sweep and mop tile floors; and clean any spills that occur, including biohazardous materials and substances
Operate cleaning equipment including but not limited to vacuums, brooms, mops and mopping buckets, automatic scrubbers, carpet extractors and buffers
Keep an inventory of supplies needed and alert facilities manager when supply runs low
Lawn care and grounds upkeep during spring, summer, and fall seasons
Snow removal; plowing and preventative salting when necessary
Set up, rearrange, and tear down furniture and bleachers for events as needed
Perform annual cleaning and painting of all classrooms
Qualifications:
High school education or similar training/experience
Previous janitorial experience preferred
Demonstrated ability to analyze an issue, identify options, and implement solutions
Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions
Be able to operate cleaning equipment like vacuums, mops, and brooms
Possesses good hand-eye coordination
Ability to read, write, and follow directions and instructions
Detail oriented; ability to multi-task and set priorities
Be able to work independently and part of a team
Physical and Mental Requirements: Must have ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, and operate cleaning equipment throughout the shift. Must have the ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. with ease and push up to 350 lbs. with the appropriate equipment. Must have the ability to deal effectively with the stress of responding quickly and be engaged in multiple tasks.
Equipment Used: Ladders, vacuums, mops, cleaning carts.
Environmental Conditions:
Performs duties with exposure to infectious or communicable diseases inherent to care of children and occasional exposure to loud or unpleasant voices due to unpredictable behavior of children. Seasonal exposure to high humidity due to temperature control of the facility. Performs duties with exposure to various types of ware chemicals, cleaning agents, and varying types of equipment and work hazards (i.e., slippery floors) work in and out of doors in varying weather conditions.
