Job Overview

The Financial Reporting Director is responsible for overseeing accounting functions that provide an accurate financial status and reporting of the overall bank, in compliance with state and federal regulation and company policies and established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).


Principal Accountabilities

The Financial Reporting Director is responsible for oversight of all aspects of a public company's reporting process. Provides oversight and reviews financial statements and notes to financial statements on a quarterly and annual basis as required by the SEC. Provides oversight and reviews internal reporting and regulatory reports, including the Call report, and FR reports. The Director of Financial Reporting ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("GAAP"), Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") and regulatory rules and regulations. Implements/reviews new accounting standards and technical accounting memos for the Company. Reports directly to the Controller and also works closely with the CFO, external audit team, legal advisors and public company third party service providers. Managing to critical deadlines is a critical part of this job.

Represent the Bank to both internal and external customers in a courteous, professional manner in face-to-face, written and telephone communications. Accountable for adherence to compliance standards including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), quality of documentation, timeliness and the ability to exercise prudent judgment for solutions from unexpected situations that arise. Actively protect confidentiality of customer and account information. Demonstrate Horizon Bank's commitment to the communities we serve through involvement in local organizations and events.


Duties

  • Manages the creation and filing of Form 10K, 10Q, 8k, S-3, S-4, Form 4, Form 3 and other SEC required filings ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of filings.
  • Manages the production of regulatory reports including the Call Report, and FR reports
  • Autonomy of application of accounting guidance in regard to financial reporting
  • Ability to manage a team effectively and efficiently.
  • Acts as a liaison to external and internal audit firm, legal advisors, financial printer and other third-party public company service providers
  • Accountable for implementation of new accounting standards and produces/reviews technical accounting memos.
  • Produces reporting calendars and ensure key constituents meet deadlines ensuring compliance with all GAAP reporting standards.
  • Establishing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with all internal controls and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
  • Conduct and document periodic risk reviews and run reports as needed.
  • Perform all work in compliance with established regulations, policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and instructions.
  • Maintain customer confidence and protect bank operations by keeping information private and confidential.
  • Participate in ongoing skill, compliance, risk management and security training as required for the position and apply knowledge in daily tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned


Personnel Management

  • Lead recruitment efforts and partner with Human Resources to recruit, hire, retain and develop a talented and diverse workforce.
  • Coordinate training for new hires and in conjunction with performance and developmental needs.
  • Monitor behavior and results to effectively coach and motivate team members to achieve service and sales goals.
  • Prepare and conduct scheduled performance evaluations. Address and document performance issues.
  • Schedule employees, manage time off requests and approve weekly timecards.
  • Responsible for building and developing a successful team as well as staff retention. Involve staff in planning, decision-making and process improvement.
  • Responsible for encouraging continuous enhancement of subordinates' knowledge and competencies to foster their successful career advancement.


Qualifications & Skills

  • College degree in accounting, finance or related field of study. CPA license preferred
  • Minimum of 7-10 years' experience in banking, public accounting or equivalent education and experience. 3-5+ years of managerial and team development experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft software applications. Experience with the FISERV core system is preferred.
  • Experience with Workiva or similar public reporting software highly desired
  • Experience with regulatory reports, including the Call report and FR reports
  • Knowledge of industry standards as they relate to GAAP Accounting and general departmental functions.
  • Exceptional organization, time management and follow-up skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers, bank employees and outside service providers.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and a wide range of procedures requiring sound judgement.
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical computations using various business machines and/or computers.
  • Must have proficient typing and computer skills, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel.
