Essential Job Functions
*Must be able to locate water, sewer, and electrical lines with locating equipment and be able to read and interpret maps and drawings. *Assist utility investigation efforts and contribute to planning for design and construction projects. *Operates detection equipment to locate and flag underground utilities. *Performs light excavation using a shovel to expose buried utilities when necessary. *Contributes to GIS records by documenting accurate utility data and site information. *Submits reports and responds to SC811 excavation notices within the established deadlines. *Performs inspections on city assets, documenting condition and recommending maintenance as needed. *Creates accurate field notes, data collection, reports and calculations. *Verifies As-built data provided to the city from contractors and 3rd parties. *Maintains routine communication with supervisors and project managers. *Collaborates with surveyors and project managers to report finding effectively. *Supports other crew members in the proper techniques and equipment operations. *Ensures quality control and performance standards are met for all work. *Photographs and documents relevant site information and findings. *Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. *Reports unsafe conditions or defects in equipment. *Reports all accidents and incidents (including near misses) as soon as they occur. *Works according to good safety practices as posted, instructed, and/or discussed. *Follows safety rules and regulations and uses personal protective equipment. *Embraces technology and best management practices through continuing education, training and research. *Has the ability to work independently , complete workloads and manage time without supervision. *Refrains from any unsafe behavior or act that might endanger self or fellow worker(s). *Participates in safety training, make makes suggestions as necessary; serves on committees or inspection teams when appropriate. *Wears seatbelt while driving to and from job sites.

*Drives vehicles and equipment. *Performs other duties as required by the Supervisor. Is required to fill in other positions within the department. *Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by two (2) years of experience in utility construction, utility locating or GIS related activities, one (1) year related to utility systems; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Licenses or Certifications: Must have a valid South Carolina driver's license or ability to obtain one. Must possess a minimum D Water Distribution LLR license or the ability to obtain within ten (10) months. Remains subject to confined space entry requirements, and responsible for PPE as needed. The employee is required to abide by all City of Clemson, State, and Federal Safety laws.
