Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining EHS programs and policies in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. This role involves conducting risk assessments, managing chemical and industrial processes, specifically within Toner and Organic Photoconductor Drum Manufacturing Plants, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Additional responsibilities include conducting regular safety inspections, investigating incidents, providing training, and collaborating with other departments to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement. The EHS Engineer will also lead and mentor a team of safety professionals, fostering a collaborative and proactive safety culture.

Responsibilities:

Program Development and Compliance:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs tailored to specific manufacturing processes.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs and policies in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in EHS practices and technologies.
  • Monitor and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices for compliance with safety standards.
  • Coordinate with external agencies for EHS audits and inspections.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety inspections, incidents, and compliance activities.
  • Develop emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, and other occupational health and safety standards.
  • Lead and mentor a team of safety professionals, providing guidance and support.

Risk Assessment and Safety Inspections:

  • Conduct risk assessments and identify potential hazards in the workplace.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify areas for improvement.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct machine safety assessments and implement control measures to ensure machinery is safe to operate.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing machine safety programs and recommend improvements.
  • Conduct chemical and process hazard analyses and implement control measures.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing EHS programs and recommend improvements.
  • Provides expert opinions on engineering and technical issues, recommends project designs and controls, and collaborates with construction teams.
  • Conducts independent reviews and assessments in specialized areas and guides project teams on complex, high-tech projects.

Collaboration:

  • Conduct regular team meetings to discuss safety initiatives and progress.
  • Collaborate with management and other departments to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Provide training and education to employees on EHS best practices and safety procedures.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to address safety issues and implement solutions.

Chemical and Industrial Process Management:

  • Manage and oversee chemical and industrial processes, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.
  • Specifically responsible for safety in Toner and Organic Photoconductor Drum Manufacturing Plants.

Performance Metrics and Reporting:

  • Develop and track EHS performance metrics and generate reports for senior management.
  • Analyze data from safety audits and incidents to identify trends and areas for improvement.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification is required.

Experience:

  • 5 years of experience in an EHS role, with a focus on chemical and industrial processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing safety teams and projects.

  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards such as OSHA and ANSI.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Experience in developing and implementing sustainability initiatives.
  • Experience in construction and projects safety.
  • Proven experience in leading teams and managing safety projects.
  • Ability to effectively manage change and promote a culture of safety.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with EHS management software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience in machine safety assessments and implementation of safety protocols for machinery.
  • Knowledge of machine safety standards and regulations.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Project management certification or experience.
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies.

Other Requirements:

  • Responsibilities occasionally require an adjusted work schedule, overtime and evening/weekend hours
  • Must meet the requirements to work in a U.S. Foreign Trade Zone and must pass additional screening to obtain FTZ Identification Card (as defined by U.S. Customs and Border Protection)

Salary Range:

  • $108,000 - $189,000, based on relevant experience, training, and education.
