Overview

At NV5, we recognize the increasing demands on the U.S. electrical grid and the challenges in modernizing power delivery infrastructure. Our team is dedicated to designing and implementing innovative solutions for distribution and substation projects across utilities, municipalities, and private clients. As part of our team, you will play a critical role in the design and development of power distribution, substation, and renewable projects.

We are seeking a Civil & Electrical Drafter/Designer who is detail-oriented, collaborative, and eager to grow within the power industry. In this role you will develop and refine electrical and civil design drawings, support project engineers, and ensure adherence to project requirements across multiple clients. This position offers the opportunity to expand your technical expertise and contribute to impactful infrastructure solutions that improve grid reliability and resilience.

It is preferred that candidates be in the Bay Area, California, but remote positions will be considered for the right candidate. Periodic travel to NV5's Walnut Creek, California office and customer site visits, as necessary.

Responsibilities

Other responsibilities include:

  • Develop, modify, and review drawings for electrical and civil engineering projects in accordance with client-specific drafting standards.
  • Interpret design requirements and assist in overhead and underground distribution design tasks. If no previous experience in design, show a willingness to learn.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of drafting standards across multiple clients and effectively communicate updates and challenges to project teams.
  • Ensure the accuracy and quality of drawings by reviewing your own and peers' work against industry codes and standards.
  • Maintain and organize project files and documentation for easy retrieval and reference.
  • Stay updated on the latest drafting techniques, CAD software advancements, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in design review meetings and collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field teams.


Qualifications

We are seeking the following experience & qualifications:

  • 3+ years of Drafting/Design experience. AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D experience highly preferred.
  • A.S. or B.S. degree.
  • Experience working on distribution, transmission, or substation projects is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam and OCalc is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and specifications.

The pay range for this position in California is $55,000 to $85,000 per year. Base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
