Reports to Director Bridge Maintenance DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Primary focus involves processes to ensure BNSF Structures are in safe and adequate condition to meet the operational requirements.
- The position has direct responsibility for condition assessment, development and prioritization of the annual capital maintenance allocation for bridge renewals and upgrades, asset extension repairs and maintenance contracts, and oversight of the Structures inspection program.
- This position provides technical direction, recommendations and response in the event of bridge emergencies and to other departments on design standards and construction techniques.
- Ensure compliance and application of company policies, applicable safety rules, Engineering Instructions, and governmental agency regulations.
- Provide supervision, leadership, and support to the Structures Departmentin the areas of safety, projection reviews, project estimates, planning/scheduling, compliance to BNSF Railroadstandards and policies and applicable governmental regulations.
- Serve as a mentor in the development of supervisors, inspectors and other Structures team members in the areas of structures design, construction techniques, strategic planning and structural assessment.
- Evaluate and determine future structural and operational needs of bridges and related structures by development of strategic plans.
- Work closely with Division Managers/Supervisors, and other Engineering Department personnel to ensure maintenance and construction activities are coordinated and that priorities are understood and met.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Thorough knowledge in the construction, inspection and maintenance of bridges and their component parts.
- Thorough knowledge of structures construction standards and Maintenance of Way Standards, Maintenance of Way and Bridge Worker Safety Rules and the General Code of Operating Rules.
- Knowledge with FRA and OSHA standards.
- Have strong analytical, problem solving and economic evaluation skills.
- Ability to organize, plan and implement complex construction and maintenance projects, including personnel, material and equipment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A B.S. degree in Civil Engineering is preferred, however candidate possessing a degree in related field and/or possessing the knowledge, skill and abilities listed above will be considered.
- Professional Engineers license is desirable but not mandatory.
- 10 years of experience in supervising structure maintenance and construction and / or structural design.
