About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

We are looking for an Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineer who seeks to enter this rapidly growing EV marketplace. Our team focusses on providing EMC technical expertise into the Design and Verification of the PCBAs & ECUs (Electronic Control Units) for current and next gen vehicle platforms (Autonomy, Infotainment, Vehicle Controls etc.) . You will be assessing the electromagnetic interactions between all circuits integrated into our vehicles and providing integration guidance and design validation.

Responsibilities

  • Work with hardware designers to develop the next generation of control electronics for Rivian vehicles.
  • Develop and validate electromagnetic models to predict circuit behavior when integrated in vehicles deployed in real-world environments.
  • Test ECU and vehicle design margins in our EMC laboratories.
  • Develop systems engineering models for sub-system EMI Source/Victim interactions in vehicles. Feed into electrical and mechanical integration and wiring harness design.

Qualifications

  • Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field
    • 6 months of previous internship or work experience on complex electrical systems (School club can be considered, e.g. robots, rockets, racecars, smallsats, etc.)
    • Good understanding of electrical circuit fundamentals (Analog circuits, RLC tank circuits, transmission line theory, and switch mode power supplies, etc. )
    • Good hands-on electronics debugging skills with an ability to work across orgs/teams
    • Experience with scripting language for data analysis (e.g. Matlab, Python)
  • Preferred Skills
    • Knowledge of electromagnetics physics fundamental concepts (Maxwell's equations, boundary conditions, electric and magnetic field sources, propagation, shielding)
    • Experience in high-speed circuit design, radio receiver design, and/or antenna & transmission-line design.
    • Experience setting up and running electromagnetic simulations with tools such as ANSYS HFSS, SiWave or CST Studio.
    • Experience in using electronic test equipment (network analyzers, frequency response analyzers) for characterizing circuit parasitics in PCBAs or wiring assemblies
