The UW Science Institute is seeking an instructional laboratory coordinator to oversee all operations of the newly constructed Student Collaborative Research Outreach and Learning Laboratory (SCROLL) teaching lab in the Science Initiative Building. The SCROLL will be used to deliver course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs) to students. This position will manage instructional laboratory scheduling and coordinating with faculty and the Registrar's Office to optimize facility usage.The position will also collaborate with the Science Institute CURE coordinator to facilitate shared equipment access across courses.

The manager provides technical expertise for course development, training instructors and assistants on laboratory techniques and proper instrument usage. Responsibilities include comprehensive inventory management of biological and chemical materials following safety protocols, maintaining current Safety Data Sheets, ensuring proper equipment maintenance, and training all users on safety procedures, laboratory etiquette, and procurement practices. The manager will be required to obtain and hold CITI biosafety, chemical hygiene, and laboratory safety certifications upon hire.

JOB TITLE:

Instructional Laboratory Coordinator - UW Science Institute

JOB PURPOSE:

Coordinate the procurement, installation and maintenance of materials, equipment and supplies for an instructional laboratory; assist in teaching students lab techniques, methods and procedures; may perform experiments for research projects as directed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate laboratory instruction and usage of laboratory facilities.
  • Order and organize all living and non-living materials used in labs as directed.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies in clean and organized condition.
  • Assist instructors by providing guidance and monitoring functions of graduate teaching assistants; assist in teaching students lab techniques, methods and procedures.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  • May assist in the development and implementation of lab curriculum.
  • May perform experiments for research projects, as directed.
  • Maintain associated records for laboratory and experiments.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States. Sponsorship for H1-B work authorization or work visa is not available for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience: 1 year work-related experience in a wet lab

Required licensure, certification, registration or other requirements: must be able to obtain and hold CITI biosafety, chemical hygiene, and laboratory safety certifications upon hire

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with research laboratory diagnostic and research tests, methods, techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of and ability to teach safety policies, such as radiological, chemical and biological safely
