GENERAL FUNCTION: Responsible for overseeing, managing and reporting to other members of management team regarding all phases of ship building including project planning/scheduling, product make or buy decisions, project manning for production and sub-contract work. Coordinates with project team to ensure compliance with all company, customer and governing body rules, regulations, procedures and contracts are met. Monitors and maintains project budgets and schedule to ensure compliance for all production departments. Reports directly to the Shipyard Manager.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities

  • Ensure safe work conditions in production areas.
  • Coordinate with management, owners and yard personnel to discuss and resolve issues related to specifications of projects and scope of work to be performed to ensure all milestones, budgets, operating costs, reliability, and planning are met.
  • Prepare compartment completion lists and ensure departments are working in proper sequence of construction while in compliance with safety, environment, quality and efficiency.
  • Plan, organize and direct activities concerned with the projects feasibility and problem areas that may occur in the construction process.
  • Ensure that all established production procedures are aligned with ship requirements, domestic and international law, and regulation policies and procedures.
  • Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints and project issues.
  • Monitor accuracy of reporting and status of project cost and schedules by working with Production Control.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Good leadership and management skills.

  • Strong facilitation and conflict resolution skills
  • Must be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations as related to plant products and components and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to plan safe and cost effective work.
  • Computer literacy in personal computer and systems.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: High School diploma or GED, supplemented by course work in production management, marine engineering or equivalent job training/experience. Minimum of 5 years' experience in plant operations and supervision. Earned value management system experience a plus.
