The Loudoun County Health Department is seeking a dedicated Spanish Medical Interpreter/Translator to join our Clinical Services team. In this vital role, you'll play a key part in ensuring non-English speaking patients receive the care they need, breaking down language barriers and enhancing healthcare access for all.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

o Interpret medical terminology, instructions, and written material between non-English speaking clients and medical personnel.
o Collaborate with medical and nutrition personnel to identify patient medical history and needs.
o Assist with appointment scheduling, nutrition counseling, medication instructions, and provide telephone interpretation while adhering to confidentiality standards.
o Assist with providing patient education and referrals to resources in the community.
o Translate medical forms, instruction sheets, educational materials, publications, and letters from English to Spanish.
o Support patients by sending educational materials, managing patient responses, and informing medical staff about patient decisions regarding medical care.
o Assist healthcare providers with case management by maintaining databases in areas like Women, Infants and Children (WIC), family planning, refugee services, sexually transmitted infections, and tuberculosis programs.
o Participate in the car seat distribution program, providing education to clients on proper usage of safety devices.
o Participate in team efforts to protect public health and safety during emergency situations.
o Perform other essential job functions as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) year of related translation and interpretation work experience preferably in a medical setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Pass pre-employment background checks to include fingerprinting and credit checks.
Successfully complete "Bridging the Gap" (training for interpreters in the medical field) and any other required training.

Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
