Position Summary:

The Sr. Global Trade & Customs Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring the company's global trade operations remain fully compliant with all relevant U.S., Mexican, and international trade regulations. This role is critical to managing import/export compliance, duty optimization, and risk mitigation, supporting our automotive production facilities in the U.S. and Mexico while ensuring seamless global supply chain operations.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in customs regulations, tariff classifications, free trade agreements (USMCA), import/export compliance, and trade-related risk management. You will serve as a subject matter expert, integrating with various departments like procurement, manufacturing and logistics to maintain compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

    Ensure STRATTEC's compliance with U.S. Customs (CBP), Mexican Customs (SAT), and other global trade authorities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of US and global trade laws and regulations such as USMCA, BAA/TAA, EAR, ITAR, and other applicable trade laws.
  • Monitor and interpret tariff changes, trade agreements, and duty drawbacks to optimize costs.
  • Conduct internal audits and trade compliance training for relevant teams.
  • Develop and implement internal compliance procedures and policies ensuring adherence.

Import/Export Operations & Documentation

  • Oversee import/export documentation for shipments to and from Mexico, the U.S., and other global suppliers.
  • Ensure accurate HTS classification, ECCN determination, country of origin documentation, and valuation for all imports and exports.
  • Collaborate with internal groups to ensure Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders are compliant and efficient.
  • Resolve customs holds, penalties, and inquiries with government agencies.

USMCA & Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Compliance

  • Validate and manage supplier certifications to maximize USMCA benefits.
  • Ensure all certificates of origin are accurate and up to date for duty reduction.
  • Partners with suppliers to improve supply chain cost efficiency through FTA programs.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with Supply Chain, Logistics, Purchasing, and Legal teams to integrate compliance best practices.
  • Identify process improvements to enhance trade efficiency.
  • Stay updated on new trade regulations, sanctions, and industry best practices.
  • Work with IT to discover trade compliance automation tools.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in International Business, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in trade compliance, customs regulations, or international logistics, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Strong knowledge of USMCA, CBP, SAT, BIS, ITAR, and trade compliance best practices.
  • Experience working with global imports/exports, customs brokers, and freight forwarders.
  • Proficiency in HTS classification, valuation methods, and trade compliance software.
  • Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Strategic thinking
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivator and ability to act independently.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS)
  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB)
  • Certified Export Specialist (CES)
  • CTPAT or AEO experience a plus
