BACKGROUND:

The IRC-Wichita office serves refugees and immigrants by providing resettlement and placement, family strengthening services through trauma informed care, economic empowerment, youth and adult education and immigration services provided by a Department of Justice accredited legal representative. The IRC helps those in need to rebuild their lives and regain control of their future in their new home.

SCOPE OF WORK:

TheDigital Literacy Specialist will implement IRC's Digital Literacy Program under the direct supervision of the Adult EducationProgram Coordinator. The Digital Literacy Specialist will equip IRC Wichita clients with core digital literacy skills and access necessary resources and opportunities to be self-sufficient. This role will provide clients direct literacy programs and services. From basic computer skills to email account creation and resume creation using Microsoft Words, the Digital Literacy Specialist develops curriculums to empower clients' ability to use technology and reduce barriers to achieve their personal and professional goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and follow a Digital literacy class training series.
  • Collaborate with IRC Wichita direct service staff to implement and refine the Digital Literacy training series in response to evolving population needs;
  • Collaborate with community partners to engage in comprehensive digital asset mapping;
  • Work with the Adult Education Coordinator to implement and incorporate digital literacy to the Vocational English Language Training (VELT) curriculum.
  • Conduct digital skills development one-on-one sessions and integrated instruction within workshops and trainings;
  • Conduct client pre and post assessments and data tracking in ETO and other reporting entities.
  • Train staff and volunteers in implementing digital literacy curriculum.
  • Assist clients access Wi-Fi and internet services through applications, referrals, and technical support.
  • Ensure that information required for program eligibility and reporting purposes is collected and that accurate records are maintained in a timely manner.
  • Work in tandem with Wichita Public School personnel to register eligible refugee students in an affordable home internet service;
  • Provide one-on-one training sessions of core digital skills and tools such as basic internet use, Wi-Fi access, Zoom, and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Assist in the design, development and implementation of additional training curricula and literacy programs;
  • Maintain the computer lab and an inventory of information and technology equipment.
  • Participate in all program meetings and staff development activities;
  • Travel as needed within service delivery area;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field strongly preferred; or mix of equivalent years of related work experience and education;
  • Prior experience working with refugee, immigrant and low-income populations preferred;
  • 1+ years' experience with instruction/training, case management, or coaching preferred;
  • High level of familiarity with digital literacy, computer skills and access efforts required;
  • High level of familiarity in using information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information;
  • Previous experience working in various global environments and contexts and demonstrated ability to communicate well with people of varied backgrounds preferred;
  • Ability to work independently, be a self-starter and maintain responsibility for multiple tasks;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including a high aptitude in making in-person and web-based presentations;

Working Environment:

  • A combination of standard office environment and 'field' time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, active insurance policy, access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area for home visits.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
