Vaco is looking for a Cost Accounting Manager for one of their industry leading clients in life sciences. We are seeking a diligent and experienced Cost Accounting Manager to oversee client cost management systems within their manufacturing facility in Philadelphia. The ideal candidate will be responsible for cost analysis, financial planning, reporting, and budgeting. This role requires excellent analytical skills and the ability to combine different data sources to calculate profit margins and provide detailed cost reports.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the cost accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Monitor and manage the company's inventory, including physical counts, tracking, and valuation.
  • Prepare and analyze cost reports, providing management with detailed cost data and profitability analysis.
  • Direct the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, reporting variances and recommending cost-effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with auditing services to ensure compliance with all regulations and standards.
  • Develop and implement cost accounting systems and strategies to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Train and support staff in the accounting, finance, and supply chain departments.
  • Identify and recommend cost-effective solutions to improve financial performance.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably within the life sciences or specialty manufacturing industries.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Advanced Excel Skills: Proficiency in advanced Excel functions, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and macros.
Project Management: Experience in managing and leading financial projects.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and analysis.
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with life science industry regulations and compliance requirements.
Leadership: Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop junior staff.
Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically and contribute to the company's financial planning and decision-making processes.
Adaptability: Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment.

Additional areas of focus for this role:
  • Calculate the rate at which inventory is used and replace it with a focus on optimal turnover rate to minimize holding costs.
  • Measure the profitability of products after accounting for production costs and track changes over time to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Monitor the total cost of manufacturing products sold and ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Track adherence to budgeted expenses and identify root causes for areas where costs exceed or fall below budget.
  • Measure the efficiency of the production process and identify bottlenecks and areas for process improvement.
  • Monitor and control overhead costs and ensure overhead costs are allocated accurately.
  • Track compliance with regulatory requirements and audit outcomes and ensure timely resolution of any audit findings.
  • Track the implementation and impact of cost reduction strategies including measuring the savings achieved through these initiatives.
  • Calculate the ROI for major projects and investments.
  • Ensure investments are yielding expected returns.
  • Track the training and development of accounting staff.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of life science industry manufacturing processes and cost structures.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
