Position summary: The City of Aspen Parks & Open Space Department is offering an amazing outdoor related opportunity to be a part of the City's Natural Resources program. This position requires an individual who can work independently, is detail oriented and friendly. The focus of this position is to support the Natural Resource program in its management of the City's wildlife, invasives species and urban forest.
Use of City managed cars and trucks are supplied for transport through the work day. The Parks Department values proper safety guidelines and employee enjoyment. Full-time four-day, parti-time and possible flexible schedule opportunities are available. Carpool opportunities are available. For those employees who complete their seasonal commitment, there is an end of season bonus of $500.
Supervision Exercised and Received: Position works under the supervision of the Natural Resource Manager.
Essential Job Functions:
-Supports the Natural Resource Program in areas of invasive species, wildlife and forestry.
-Under general supervision, works as a team to assist the Wildlife Coordinator in field-based monitoring aimed at understanding the location and condition of wildlife within City limits.
-Assists with public outreach and education, enforcement of municipal codes, and responding to emergency wildlife calls throughout the City. This may include responding to wildlife that are trapped, injured, or deceased.
-Patrols alleyways and neighborhoods throughout the City of Aspen to document violations of the municipal code relating to storage of wildlife attractants. Education and enforcement will be needed for violations.
-May conduct vegetation management and control of weeds, including use of manual, chemical, and/or biological control methods in restoration zones and City of Aspen properties.
-Supports the relationship between local governments and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff.
-This job demands attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
