LOCATION: Department of Public Health DEPARTMENT: Preventive Services SHIFT: 8:30AM - 4:30PM Job Summary AFSCME 1276 MEMBERS Under the supervision of the Epidemiology Unit Director or designee, assists in the development, maintenance, and analysis of community and population survey data for suburban Cook County. Prepares data related to chronic diseases, injury, violence, sentential events, and mortality surveillance, the vaccine initiative, health indicator, vulnerability indices, exposures, risk factors, and service utilization using analytical products such as R, Statistical Analysis Software (SAS), Excel and data visualization software. Typical Duties
- Prepares detailed summaries of survey data by health status, medical care utilization program and other health data suitable for publication or presentation using R, SAS, Excel and other statistical software
- Follows standards and protocols for data management and analytic processes
- Assists in the development and conducts analysis of measures of public health program effectiveness, efficiency, utilization and impact on health status
- Assists in the development of dashboards in R-Shiny, Tableau, and excel
- Assists with coordination and report generation of mobile vaccine data with healthcare providers and community-based organizations
- Performs basic interpretation of data analysis results
- Performs epidemiologic analysis of vaccine data, health indicator, surveillance, risk factor and related data using Geographic Information System (GIS) technology
- Responds to requests from program personnel, community agencies and the public for health population, health and service utilization data and reports
- Provides technical assistance in the development of data collection tools including surveys, questionnaires and databases
- Assists in preparation of community health indicator data, analysis and presentations for use in the state-mandated, agency recertification process
- Assists in providing training related to entry, collection and analysis of health status and service utilization
- Monitors data quality and consistency
- May be required to develop and/or deliver presentations on a variety of public health topics and concepts
- Other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in public health or master's in science with a concentration in epidemiology or biostatistics from an accredited institution, required (provide at time of interview).
- One (1) year of experience in epidemiologic analysis of data, public health report preparation and management of population-based databases using R, Statistical Analysis Software (SAS) or other statistical software, required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and statistical software, required.
- Position requires moderate travel for which the employee must possess a valid driver's license and insured vehicle or otherwise provide an acceptable and reliable means of transportation, required.
- Completion of the National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) courses to include IS-100, 200, 700, and 800 within six (6) months of employment, required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience using ARC Geographic Information System (GIS) software, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
- Knowledge of epidemiologic and statistical theory and methods
- Knowledge of basic statistical analysis and report preparation
- Ability using statistical methods in epidemiologic analysis
- Good written and verbal communication skills
