The Claims Specialist performs a variety of professional duties in support of Corporate Safety's Loss Control Division including receiving, examining, investigating, and analyzing fleet, fire, general liability and business impact claims. This position takes incident reports by telephone and email and manages claims through the entire claim cycle. This position also identifies subrogation opportunities for referral to the Senior Loss Control Specialists or the Assistant General Counsel.

Responsibilities of Position:



  • Manage claims that involve bodily injury and 3rd party property damage by the telephone, email.
  • Interact with claimants and internal personnel to obtain necessary claim processing information.
  • Gather documentation to assist in claim evaluation including but not limited to incident and police reports, statements, records, and related materials.
  • Confirm coverage and communicate with insurance companies for potential subrogation collection.
  • Determine liability or deny claims and communicate to third party claimants, insurance companies and TPAs.
  • Interact with other loss control team members and manager to resolve issues. Complete appropriate oral, written, and online reports to reflect and supplement all file activity.
  • Set and maintain appropriate reserves on claim files.
  • Negotiate settlements with individuals or insurance carriers and process loss settlements.
  • Use independent discretion/judgment and sound decision-making when handling claims.
  • Prepare and forward external and internal claim related correspondences or requests, to include damage claim forms, claim estimate and denial letters, check requests, purchase orders, etc. as required.
  • Update and maintain internal incident reports and databases with information as claims evolve.
  • Perform all tasks in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:



  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for success in this role as you will be responsible for interacting and documenting in the incident reports.
  • Strong computer and recordkeeping skills.
  • Highly motivated individual who possesses a professional demeanor and excellent customer service skills, and who works well independently.
  • Strong analytical skills necessary for interpreting claim information and proper course of action.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with ability to multi-task, maintain a strong attention to detail and claim follow up.
  • Must possess good investigative and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to review photos, video, and supplemental information to determine appropriate claim action.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and/or confidential documents and information.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and employees.



Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:



  • 2+ years prior experience in a similar role and/or claims management is strongly preferred.



Physical Requirements in a Regular workday:



  • Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 20lbs.
  • Continuously sitting/standing/walking in office environment.

  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable).
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language.
