Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Maintenance Mechanic.
In this role, the successful candidate under the management of the Operations Manager and general guidance from the Team Leader for Building Services, performs the duties normally required by one or more of the following trades: Refrigeration, Carpentry, Painting, Plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical.
Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, fixtures, appliances, etc. Installs various types of conduits, electrical devices, motors, lighting fixtures and heating equipment efficiently. Examines and tests HVAC or elements of electrical systems to locate obvious problems/faults.
- Repairs and replaces damaged or defective piping, fixtures by connecting them to inlet and outlet piping by fitting gaskets, coupling trays and valves and soldering connections to seal joints when necessary. Replaces washers, stems and seats in valves or taps in a timely manner. Repairs and replaces components on sterilizers, bed pan washers, tunnel washers, and other sanitizing equipment accurately. Inspects all connections and other parts of system for leaks. Tests components on sterilizers and other sanitizing equipment utilizing test instruments in an efficient manner. Responsible for maintaining plumbing natural and medical gas systems.
- Repairs and replaces refrigeration equipment and appliances in an efficient manner. Repairs and replaces HVAC electrical/electronic pneumatic equipment. Examines and tests HVAC or elements of electrical systems to locate obvious problems/faults. Inspects all refrigeration systems to determine preventive maintenance, routine and emergency repairs.
- Constructs and repairs structural woodwork and equipment working from blueprints and/or oral instructions. Understands electrical/mechanical symbols and interprets electrical/mechanical drawings accurately.
- Replaces damaged ceiling tiles and floor tiles, performs repairs to fixtures, partitions, doors, office equipment, cabinets, and structural woodwork. Ability to repair/install locks efficiently.
- Demonstrates skills in painting and refinishing, to include preparation of surfaces for painting, refinishing and/or filling, matching paint colors, mixing paint, blending paints or stains to obtain desire color and consistency.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or Equivalent. Five (5) years of experience; or equivalent combination of Trade or vocational school graduation shall reduce the previous requirement to four (4) years. Must have the ability to perform the duties normally required by one or more of the following trades: Refrigeration, Carpentry, Painting, Plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a maintenance mechanic or helper is desirable. Must have the ability to handle many priority objectives at once with full regard to safety, and code compliance.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $63,445.35 - $68,601.43 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
