Summary:
Reports to the Medical Director of Adult Consultation Psychiatry for clinical practice (NP/PA) and to the Director for Nursing Professional Practice and Research for role and activities in education and nursing research for the Department of Nursing (NP). Facilitates a quality hospital experience and outcome for patients through timely action and proper use of resources. Oversees the progress of a specific caseload of patients across the care continuum including performance of psychiatric assessments patient examinations review of relevant medical records and collection of historical data from family and healthcare providers. Liaisons with house staff and nursing staff regarding clinical status and treatment recommendations. Provides appropriate education consultation and resources for adult psychiatric patients across the care continuum.

Responsibilities:

Manages a caseload of patients in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health status and coordinate care over time and across healthcare settings.

Provides leadership in the development validation implementation and evaluation of standards policies procedures and critical paths to support the patient care delivery model.

Oversees care coordination in acute home care and ambulatory care settings as feasible.

Assists the healthcare team to achieve mutually agreed upon healthcare goals by providing necessary support education and encouragement.

Provides expert consultation for clinical issues promoting increased knowledge and skills for the consultee.

Participates in the education clinical research and mentoring of healthcare providers.

Facilitates patient/family education in area of expertise.

Annually completes mandatory safety infection control and BLS.

Independently prescribes medication for psychiatric patients per licensure.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Graduate of a PA training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of Physician

Bachelors degree from an accredited PA training program or in another health sciences related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the US Department of Education

Current and continuous certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants

EXPERIENCE:

Experience as a PA in acute hospital setting required.

Must have current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Rhode Island.

Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
