Join Metra's Building and Bridges (B&B) Carpenter/Helper team and play a critical role in maintaining the infrastructure that keeps our trains running safely and efficiently. From constructing and repairing station platforms, fences, and retaining walls to maintaining culverts, sewers, water lines, and highway grade crossings, your work will directly impact the daily operations of one of the nation's busiest commuter rail systems. Per the CBA, this position starts at 80% Engineering is responsible for building and maintaining the majority of Metra's fixed assets, including buildings, stations, bridges, track, electrical, telecommunications, and signal systems. The Engineering Department also monitors the condition of and assists in building and maintaining the fixed assets on the freight lines where Metra trains operate. The Engineering Department is divided into two major groups: Capital Projects and Communications and Maintenance. The department is staffed by more than 700 employees. This is a Union position. Starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
