Brown and Caldwell (BC) seeks an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) Senior Manager focused on the Private Sector and Municipal markets with an established track record of successfully developing and delivering IPD projects and programs for Environmental Construction Services (ECS) using collaborative at-risk delivery models, including design-build (DB), engineering-procurement-construction (EPC), construction management at risk (CMAR) and progressive forms thereof. The IPD Senior Manager for ECS will serve as a Deputy to the IPD ECS Director and is highly recognized and regarded at Brown and Caldwell as a IPD Leader who assembles and manages highly-talented, diversified teams of professionals spanning environmental science, engineering, compliance and permitting, cost estimating, procurement, pre-construction, construction, operations and maintenances (O&M), and external subcontractor and supplier partners to successfully develop and deliver integrated ECS solutions within our growing IPD Construction Services (CS) practice. Targeted Environmental Construction Services include environmental remediation, mitigation, restoration, and closure projects and relatively smaller industrial and municipal water/wastewater projects (typically <$5M in value) involving new construction, modifications/upgrades, or pilot testing.

As an ECS Leader within BC's IPD Services enterprise and IPD CS Team, effective networking, communication and collaboration across BC business units, shared services, design services, and technical practices are paramount to the IPD Senior Manager's success. He or she will be responsible for providing IPD development and delivery leadership for projects and programs with key clients in the private and municipal sectors, with key clients in the private sector spanning production (food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, mining, manufacturing), distribution (retail, technology, transportation, waste), and energy (oil/gas, chemicals, power) market areas.

Characteristics of the successful candidate include the proven ability to successfully develop and deliver IPD ECS and sustain and grow significant BC revenue therefrom. The successful candidate will maintain, leverage and grow their exceptional relationships at BC and with key clients and valued external subcontractor/supplier partners on national and local levels. The candidate will have the ability to navigate, collaborate, and align with client, BC, and BC subcontractor/supplier organizations to successfully develop and deliver project and programmatic solutions for IPD ECS assignments in manner that meets BC standards of excellence for safety, quality, risk management, and profitability and that exceed client expectations.

Detailed Description:

The IPD ECS Senior Manager will report to the IPD ECS Director, function as the IPD ECS Director's "deputy" in leading and managing the IPD ECS portfolio and be expected to significantly influence and contribute to the overall performance and growth of IPD ECS and broader IPD CS portfolio. As an IPD ECS functional leader, the Senior Manager will collaborate and partner with other functional leaders (Water/Wastewater Construction Services, Design Management, Pre-construction Services, Field Services) and resources within the IPD CS Team to development and delivery of IPD ECS solutions. The Senior Manager will possess the broad-based and specialized experience necessary to lead, manage, empower, and oversee a team of professionals in delivering solutions that meet BC standards of excellence for safety, quality, risk management, and profitability expectations and that exceed client expectations.

Primary duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:



  • Lead and manage operations for the IPD ECS program and business portfolio under the direction and mentorship of BC's IPD EPC Director. Expand growth focus and network BC's core service offerings to private sector and municipal clients. Targeted service offerings include remediation, mitigation, restoration, and closure projects and relatively smaller industrial and smaller municipal water/wastewater projects (typically <$5M in value) involving new construction, modifications/upgrades, or pilot testing. Plan and expectation is that the Senior Manager's level of leadership and management responsibility will progressively increase over time.
  • Directly manage a portfolio of IPD ECS projects to meet annual revenue and financial performance goals. Serve as BC Authorized and Accountable Commercial Representative/Project Director or Project Manager on these projects. Routinely review and update ECS revenue estimates and profiles for these projects in coordination with business unit pursuit leaders and IPD EPC Director.
  • Directly support BC business units in cross selling the company store and IPD service offerings, expanding relationships, and developing and winning IPD ECS work to meet annual sales goals. Serve as Lead IPD ECS Developer and BC Authorized and Accountable Commercial Representative/Project Director or Project Manager on these opportunities. Routinely review and update ECS revenue estimates and profiles for these opportunities in coordination with business unit pursuit leaders and IPD EPC Director.
  • Be accountable for the performance and results of assigned IPD ECS portfolio of business opportunities and projects. This includes managing resources for the same, including direct reports, IPD CS Team, BC shared services (e.g., design and procurement services), imported BC resources from business units and technical practices, and subcontractors/ suppliers. Requires initiative and commitment, expert critical thinking, collaboration, communication, conflict management/resolution, and adaptability/flexibility/change management skills.
  • Develop and implement a networking/engagement plan in coordination with IPD ECS Director to regularly meet with other BC business units, practices, and leadership teams to identify and develop opportunities, steer project development, and oversee or manage delivery. Within this capacity, also meet with BC Client Service teams to identify opportunities, sell IPD ECS (both internally and externally), and develop direct connections between clients and ECS. Manage and grow BC relationships with key clients, subcontractors, and supplier partners.
  • Serve as a remediation Subject Matter Specialist for projects within and outside of the IP ECS portfolio.
  • Represent IPD CS on BC's scheduled resource management calls to message and fill staffing needs and identify early engagement opportunities. Routinely review and coordinate updates to CS resource management schedule. Guide decisions based on resource availability and functional objectives. Fill this role in coordination with IPD ECS Director and CS Team.
  • Develop and maintain plans and SOPs/ templates/tool kits in area of assigned function, including business, production, and/or organizational priorities.
  • Develop/implement a junior staff development plan to expand the ECS "bench" for project delivery and advancement/succession planning. Take on and develop direct reports to expand bench of IPD ECS project managers and IPD ECS general practitioners with targeted subject matter specialties (design, build, operate).
  • Manage industry conference identification, planning, budgeting, and attendance for ECS in coordination with IPD ECS Director and BC business unit and technical practice stakeholders. Target to actively participate in key conferences through organizational participation, presentations, and networking with key clients/partners.
  • Deliver the BC experience to internal and external clients by acting as a trusted partner and advisor. Deliver the same to BC employees by providing guidance and coaching and ensuring timely/meaningful feedback is given to support career development and progression.


Desired Skills and Experience:

Senior Manager:



  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in environmental engineering or science with 15+ years of consulting, construction, and operations/maintenance/monitoring (OM&M) experience involving environmental remediation, mitigation, restoration, and closure projects and smaller water/wastewater projects.
  • Experience developing, delivering, and managing related projects and programs.
  • Experience developing and delivering high-quality and complex solutions safe, right, and to defined scope, schedule and budget metrics as an ECS Contractor. Proficient in managing related safety, quality, change, risk, and commercial considerations.
  • Experience with procurement and management of materials/products and subcontract services.
  • Experience with evaluation, selection, design, implementation, and OM&M of environmental solutions.
  • Specialized experience with evaluation, selection, design, implementation, and OM&M of insitu remediation solutions involving injection of liquid and solid products into the ground to remediate subsurface environmental impacts using chemical, biological and physical methods and related systems to extract, treat, and re-circulate/re-inject/discharge liquid and vapor. Candidate must have technical practice and expertise in related applications involving hydrogeology, contaminant fate and transport, means and methods for implementation and OM&M, and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Capable of assembling and leading diverse teams of project management and technical staff to successfully position, pursue, win, and deliver environmental solutions on a turn-key basis using collaborative at-risk delivery models, including DB, EPC, CMAR and progressive forms thereof.
  • Strong program management, organization, business development, leadership, and relationship skills required.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict management skills required.
  • Strong verbal and written (technical writing) communication skills required. Effective at communicating across functions and teams and up/down the chain of command.
  • Strong marketing, proposal development, and presentations experience required.
  • Must be proficient in using standard computer programs (MS Word, MS Teams, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Must be proficient in schedule development and management utilizing Microsoft Project.
  • Must supervise and mentor direct reports. Prior experience a plus.
  • Willing to travel for multiple consecutive days and sometimes on weekends, up to 20% annually.
  • Possesses a positive and can-do attitude. Flexible and self-motivated. Creative, collaborative, and committed to safety and quality. Detail oriented.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record and be willing to pass a pre-employment drug screen.


Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location B: $144,000 - $197,000
