Your Role on the Team
The Senior Director Administration & Strategy, Health Advancement is responsible for the overall administration, systems, operations, and fiscal management, for Health Advancement. This position reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC), Health Advancement and serves as an advisor to the AVC on the full-scope of department operations, University policies and operationalization of strategic plans.
The incumbent will successfully interact throughout the organization to share information, participate in cross-functional projects and gain support and commitment to achieve shared outcomes, effectively using formal and informal networks.
Responsibilities include program development and administrative management of the department's annual permanent budget and financial operations, personnel, space and facilities equipment, department programs (e.g. major gift pipeline system, annual giving, stewardship and communications services), training, data resources and information management (dotted line), compliance oversight, contract administration, gift administration, and short and long term strategic planning in all areas of responsibility. Incumbent will establish and direct management systems to ensure the overall control of departmental operational activities.
The Senior Director provides strong administrative leadership using effective interpersonal skills with diverse constituencies and levels of management and staff, both within and outside the department and outside the University environment. The incumbent ensures that all efforts are progressing effectively and according to planned objectives, established milestones and measurement criteria, taking responsibility for interpreting, evaluating and ensuring compliance with University policies.

Required:
- Broad knowledge of the organization's processes, protocols and procedures with a focus on budget, account and fund management and / or personnel management under labor contract(s) and personnel policy.
- Broad knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; and / or accounting and payroll.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence / persuade all levels of staff.
- Skills in organization and customer service to effectively manage multiple important priorities. Proven ability to organize department work functions in an efficient and effective manner.
- Broad knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.
- Skills to work collaboratively with other locations.
- Proven skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution.
- Demonstrated management and conflict resolution skills to effectively lead and motivate others.
- Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work successfully with colleagues, senior university leadership, Chairs, Deans, department leads, physicians, faculty, donors, trustees, and administrators.
- Resourcefulness in finding appropriate solutions to problems and initiative in presenting alternatives and implementing solutions to ensure effective change. Ability to anticipate problems and take necessary action to eliminate or mitigate potential negative effects.
- Political acumen, tact, discretion and judgment and knowledge of fundraising principles to maintain positive and effective working relationships with deans, senior University administrators and leadership, senior Advancement managers, and staff on a broad range of issues.
- High-level computer literacy, including computer software programs at the level of sophistication required for a development office. Proven ability to use MS Office Suite and database programs. Knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and ability to quickly learn to navigate and become skilled in new database management platforms
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience
- Three years of management experience
- Demonstrated experience managing human resource issues
- Demonstrated experience in the development and management / administration of a fundraising program in an academic medical environment
- Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining complex financial control and reporting systems
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and controlling budgets with multiple funding resources
- Experience conducting long and short-term financial planning and analysis in a complex funding environment
Preferred:
- Comprehensive understanding of higher education advancement goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
- In-depth knowledgeable of advancement practices in a complex academic health setting.
- Knowledge of healthcare clinical and research operations in an academic medical center environment.
