Starting Pay: $13.26 an Hour

Job Objective:

As the Custodian you will be responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility. As the Custodian you will need to perform a full range of custodial duties that provide a safe and clean environment for the people we serve while ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do:



  • Maintain all floors in the facility by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and utilizing a floor machine to ensure cleanliness of all floors.
  • Maintain bathrooms by restocking supplies, cleaning, and disinfecting sinks, mirrors, urinals, toilets, and doors.
  • Empty, clean, sanitize waste receptacles, and pick up papers, trash, and other debris inside and outside of the facility.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks including cleaning of all windows, walls, drinking fountains, garbage cans, classroom shelves and counters, church pews, all information tables.
  • Outside maintenance is needed by shoveling and sweeping all walkways, applying deicer to sidewalks and walkways when necessary, mowing grass and keeping weeds down, and replacing lights when needed.
  • Communicate with Operations Manager on ordering supplies that are needed.


  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership.


Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: High School Diploma and experienced preferred

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: Two years of custodial experience preferred

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe from Harm training within the first 90 days of employment

Skills/Abilities:



  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • The ability to run a floor cleaning machine and mowing equipment such as a lawn mower and weed eater.


Supervisory Responsibility: The ability to supervise community service workers and maintain their timecards and court related paperwork.

Physical Requirements Include:



  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to twenty-five pounds
  • May require bending, squatting, walking.
  • May require standing for extended


Travel: Position may require travel for training and to get maintenance supplies.

Working Conditions: Must maintain a safe environment due to the other programs going on in the facility. Must be able to work nights and weekends if necessary and must be able to work outdoors as well.
