Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose |
The Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific invites applications for the position of Stage and Technical Director. This full-time position is responsible for overseeing all music-learning and performing spaces. This position will guide all technical and production aspects of performances and events held in the Conservatory's two performance venues: the 800-seat Faye Spanos Concert Hall and the 100-seat Recital Hall. The Stage and Technical Director will work closely with faculty, students, guest artists, and staff to ensure high-quality production support for a diverse range of musical performances, lectures, and special events. |
Essential Functions |
- Oversee Conservatory concerts and events (150 + per year).
- Manage all technical operations for performances, including lighting, sound, stage setup, and video projection.
- Supervise and train student workers, stage crew, and box office ensuring a professional and educational experience.
- Coordinate scheduling for Conservatory performance, rehearsal, and classroom facilities.
- Maintain and upgrade technical equipment, including sound systems, lighting rigs, and recording setups.
- Collaborate with faculty and guest artists to meet production needs for concerts, rehearsals, and special events.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices in stage and technical operations.
- Coordinate with university facilities and external vendors for venue maintenance and equipment repairs.
- Assist with live-streaming and recording of performances as needed.
- Work with the Director of Operations and Student Staff to manage Conservatory inventory and equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in technical theater, stage management, music technology, a related field, or equivalent experience (i.e. Two (2) years of full-time experience in the same/similar position is equal to one (1) year of completed post-high school coursework).
- One (1) year of experience in live sound engineering, lighting design, stage management, and/or AV technology.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Knowledge of standard operating procedures for performing arts and academic instruction and event management.
- Minimum of two years of experience in stage and technical direction, preferably in a music or performing arts setting.
- Proficiency in live sound engineering, lighting design, stage management, and AV technology.
- Experience supervising and mentoring student workers or interns.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs) and recording technologies.
- Knowledge of stage rigging and theatrical safety procedures.
- Knowledge of standard operating procedures for performing arts and academic instruction and event management.
- Experience in video production and live-streaming setups.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
- Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Workweek/Travel:
Work is primarily performed in the standard office environment with use of computer and phone, occasionally requires work out of doors or in large auditoria with exposure to warmer or cooler temperatures. Requires the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by the performance schedule. |
Hiring Range |
$30.00 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. |
