Environmental Test Engineer Intern

What you'll do:

Viasat is looking for an Environmental Test Engineer Intern to join our growing team. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including systems test engineers, electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, program managers and mechanical just to name a few. You will get exposure to many phases of the development lifecycle: evaluation of requirements, trade studies, design and unit test including engineering/confidence, design verification, regression and qualification. You will have the autonomy to complete your tasks but also have access to hard-working engineers and domain experts to help you succeed. Sound interesting? Keep reading....

The day to day:

An intern on our team can expect to work on a wide variety of tasks to include:

• work with system engineering to flow down design validation and qualification test requirements
• create environmental test procedures to validate device under test (DUT)
• work with mechanical engineering on test fixtures
• perform testing on product and capture data for follow on analysis.
• program and operate test equipment such as thermal/humidity chambers, vibration/shaker table, drip test apparatus and drop test table.

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2025 and June 2026
• Hands on experience working with tools on mechanical and/or electrical systems.
• Class work or exposure to basic electronic design and/or assembly and AC/DC circuits.
• Class work or exposure to Solidworks or similar CAD software.
• Ability to analyze requirements, develop test plans/procedures, and document test results
• Excellent communications skills (written and oral)
• Ability to work independently and tackle complex problems with minimal assistance
• Ability to travel to outside test facilities (typically Anaheim area)
• US Citizenship required

• A strong mechanical background and experience with mechanical assembly
• Experience in the operation of some of the following equipment: Multi-meter, Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer and data acquisition systems
• A working knowledge of SolidWorks
• Experience with engineering drawings
• Experience with SolidWorks, SolidEdge, or Creo
• Completed a heat transfer course
