Why us, why now?

The Senior Specialist of Medical Education assists portfolio and Cluster leadership by researching and synthesizing information and data to produce scholarly articles, background papers, presentations, talking points, and training materials on a wide variety of topics related to medical education. They serve as a trusted resource and content expert in medical education and scholarship. The Senior Specialist monitors the educational literature to identify emerging issues and innovations in medical education, including but not limited to competency-based learning and assessment and artificial intelligence in medical education. They document their review of the latest research and report findings of relevance for the Cluster and synthesize information to produce presentations, talking points, reports, and newsletters on a variety of medical education topics for Cluster leadership.

How will you make an impact?

Manage diverse writing teams to produce medical education products and resources for multiple audiences.
  • Manage matrixed teams consisting of diverse members depending on the project, to produce new resource collections, white papers, and tools for audiences identified by the Cluster and/or portfolio as high-priority. For example, developing data snapshots for the SCOPE survey, program evaluation for the MERC certificate program, and managing the Equity in Learning collection.
Participate in research projects as assigned
  • Work as a member of a team to produce high quality medical education research as Cluster goals necessitate on areas of high-priority such as competency based education and artificial intelligence in medical education.
Work on behalf of Cluster leadership to implement a regular process for standardized and high-quality communication work products and initiatives in alignment with Cluster priorities.
  • Twice a year, update the shared slides, talking points, and other materials utilized by Cluster leadership to present existing Cluster work to diverse audiences. Utilizing content knowledge of medical education, create new presentations, talking points, and other materials alignment with the AAMC mission and Cluster goals.
Serve as a trusted resource and content expert in medical education.
  • Respond to inquiries from colleagues in the Cluster and beyond, consult on medical education projects, prepare briefs for senior leaders speaking with reporters about medical education-related topics.
Monitor the educational literature to identify emerging issues and innovations in medical education.
  • Create a tracking mechanism, regularly review current medical education articles, provide synthesized reviews of topics upon request from Cluster leadership.
What you'll bring to the role
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 5 - 7 years of related work experience.
  • Experience in medical education either at a medical school, or related organization.

Compensation Grade Range

$86,955.00-$102,300.00/ Grade Mid-Point:

Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors may include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations.

If a bachelor's degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
