MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Registered or registry eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography

2. Six (6) months of an approved and accredited school of Ultrasonography

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Performs ultrasonic diagnostic procedures as ordered by physician for patients

2. Explains procedures to patient to assure cooperation and optimum test results

3. Positions patient. Selects appropriate transducer, depending upon depth of field, organ to be identified, etc. Conducts scanning procedures using ultrasound equipment. Moves scanner over specified body area, and adjusts equipment to focus. Videotapes hard copy images as directed. Documents test.

4. Maintain department records (patient/other), reports, and files as required

5. Assists in care and maintenance of facilities, equipment and supplies. Maintains supply levels. Keeps work areas clean. Alerts supervisor to equipment malfunction, etc

6. Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assessment and improvement, safety, environmental and infection control

7. Maintains pre/post related diagnostic records on each patient

8. Attends in-service and other meetings as required

9. Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, conferences, workshops, etc

10. Performs duties of Ultrasound Technologist

1. Differentiate various shades of gray as depicted on black and white television monitor or photograph

2. Stand and walks for up to 12 hours a day

3. Lifts, pushes, and pulls-up to 10 pounds of weight

4. Carries items up to 20 pounds

4. Maintains knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care/safety.
