Summary:

The Education Coordinator reports to the Director for the Center of Professional Practice and Innovation and has responsibility for planning and evaluating educational programs that support patient care practices staff development and research activities within the nursing department. Participates in the development implementation and evaluation of patient and professional programs.

Responsibilities:

In conjunction with CPPI director the education coordinator manages the Nursing Residency Program (NRP) per guidelines including communication with all stakeholders. Additionally facilitates and coordinates delivery of all NRP content as well as implementation and administration of the program (nurse residents nursing leadership preceptors and schools of nursing).

Collaborates with Advanced Practice Managers Assistant Clinical Managers and Clinical Managers to develop implement and evaluate orientation and Nurse Residency curriculum including an evidence-based project.

Provides direct supervision to nurse residents and newly hired nursing staff including evaluation and feedback regarding clinical competency in terms of skills advocacy and ethical practice.

Works in partnership with preceptors and unit leadership (clinical managers/assistant clinical managers/advanced practice managers) to provide feedback on staff performance and make recommendations for staff retention.

Communicates regularly with the CPPI director and the Professional Development program manager to collaborate on overall success of the Nurse Residency program.

In conjunction with the Director of CPPI evaluates revises and designs nursing orientation programming and formal continuing education for the nursing department.

Has general oversight of the clinical technical and orientation of new staff within the nursing department. Provides training programs consistent with requirements of appropriate applicable regulatory agencies.

Prepares format and content of orientation and professional development courses. Provides guidance to staff preceptors and instructs and evaluates teaching behaviors providing consistent feedback and role modeling.

Reviews and revises policies and procedures for educational and professional development programs.

Serves as a consultant for nursing faculty students staff leadership and other departments on a system-wide basis.

Other information:

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

QUALIFICATIONS * EDUCATION:

Baccalaureate in Nursing from an accredited college or university required; Master*s Degree in Nursing preferred. Consideration will be given to internal candidates committed to completing a Master*s program.

Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island. Strong Interpersonal skills.

Certification in specialty area preferred.

Ability to design implement and evaluate any educational program that meets the staff learning needs incorporating age specific requirements.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

QUALIFICATIONS * EXPERIENCE:

Three or more years of acute care clinical experience with demonstrated teaching/leadership and communication skills preferred. One year experience in direct support of newly licensed nurses and/or program administration related to new graduate nurses preferred.

Computer skills including Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to sit stand and walk intermittently throughout the day. Exposure to patient care environments. Any hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety precautions.Supervisory responsibility.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Performs independently within department policies and practices. Takes initiative and meets objectives with minimal supervision. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor when clarification of departmental policies and procedures are required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervisory responsibility for nurses participating in the nurse residency program.
