Job Summary

This position begins August 2025 at the CGCC Pecos Campus.

Teach the student population across a broad range of Communication courses, fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment. This position emphasizes enhancing teaching effectiveness and promoting student success through the integration of instructional technology, innovative teaching methods, and meaningful assessment practices. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to collaboration, innovation, and the creation of sustainable learning experiences

Essential Functions

60% - Primarily instructs a population of students in Communication courses through in-person classes while also supporting other modalities, such as hybrid, online, and live online formats as needed. Develops and delivers written syllabi, instructional materials, curriculum, and engaging learning activities aligned with MCCCD-approved course competencies and college-wide learning outcomes. Utilizes learning-centered strategies and instructional technologies to enhance student engagement and success, with a focus on in-person and honors students. Prepares, assesses, and evaluates student mastery of curriculum, course competencies, and college-wide outcomes. Applies assessment and evaluation results to improve teaching effectiveness and student learning. Maintains scheduled office hours to provide guidance, advising, and support to students.

30% - Actively contributes to the academic life of the college by participating in campus and district-wide initiatives, such as service-learning programs and learning communities. Collaborates with Communication faculty to design and refine community college Communication curriculum. Represents the CGCC Communication program in various capacities, including department and division meetings, Williams Campus activities, college and district committees, workshops, and special projects. Participates in division and college-level assessment and program review processes, ensuring alignment with institutional goals. May serve as lead faculty, with responsibilities including hiring, supervising, and evaluating adjunct faculty. Demonstrates intercultural competence in interactions with students, colleagues, and the community, fostering inclusivity and collaboration across all areas of the college.

10% - Stays current with emerging trends and advancements in the Communication field to support the scholarship of teaching and learning. Engages in professional development through conferences, webinars, seminars, and workshops. Continuously enhances knowledge of discipline-specific pedagogy, as well as effective teaching strategies for adult learners and under-prepared students, to promote equitable and impactful learning experiences.

Minimum Qualifications

A graduate degree is required. A faculty may qualify with any of the following:

Master's degree or higher in the teaching field of Communication

OR

Master's degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching field of Communication.

Communication, Speech, Speech Communication, Communication Studies, Interpersonal Communication, Mass Communication, Communication Education, Public Address, Applied Communication, Health Communication, International Communication, Intercultural Communication, Organizational Communication, Political Communication, Performance Studies, Rhetorical Criticism, Communication Theory.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Doctorate degree in Communication
  2. Five (5) years of full-time college teaching experience (or equivalent part-time teaching experience) in in-person Communication courses.
  3. Experience teaching four (4) or more distinct communication courses, such as Introduction to Human Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking, Small Group Communication, Intercultural Communication, Organizational Communication, or Research/Nature of Inquiry.
  4. Demonstrated experience teaching in alternative modalities (e.g. online, live online, hybrid).
  5. Demonstrated experience in evaluating curriculum, and assessing student learning outcomes; including creating or revising curricula, using assessment tools, and analyzing data to improve teaching effectiveness.
  6. Experience using inclusive teaching techniques to support various student populations (e.g., active learning, learning-communities, culturally responsive pedagogy, differentiated instruction)
  7. Experience applying Communication principles through community/student engagement activities (e.g., Service-Learning, Toastmasters, public speaking events) and participation in institutional initiatives or committees.

  • May be required to instruct at multiple sites
  • May require lifting objects weighing up to 25lbs.
