Principal Facilities & Engineering Specialist Seize the opportunity to join Genentech as a Principal Facilities & Engineering Specialist. The Principal Facilities & Engineering Specialist will act as the single point of contact (SPOC) for Site Operations to support large projects executed by the Design and Construction organization, which includes new construction, plant infrastructure, process equipment, utilities, lab modifications, etc. Act as a core representative on the User Team of large capital projects, defining the needs and interests of Site Operations as it relates to building infrastructure design, space requirements, and system operations and maintenance. Act as a Program Lead for the SPOC Program, managing and overseeing the execution of key projects and initiatives Lead and develop strategic initiatives for the South San Francisco/Dixon Campus team, focusing on supporting project operational handovers and definitions. These initiatives include, but are not limited to, process improvements, identifying technology and innovation opportunities, and standardizing turnover documents and operational procedures. Establishes SPOC key performance indicators and coaches team to meet defined metrics. Drives alignment and efficiencies between Site Operations, Design and Construction and other Site Services leadership. Strategically improves and expands the capabilities of engineering and construction best practices and advises teams on the selection and deployment of appropriate tools and standards. Assist in the selection process and provides oversight of contractor FOM SPOC's supporting projects with cost over $10,000,000 Proposes and develops new project submissions in alignment with strategic planning initiatives and engineering function. Applies diversified knowledge of engineering principles and construction best practices. Seeks training and insights on new approaches from industry experts and peers. Supports the development and implementation of new technology and data analytics strategies to support facility operations. Act as a key member of the project team from conceptual design through closeout to ensure the project is completely handed over to Site Operations. Responsible for Facilities & Engineering project support to ensure effective, efficient and timely implementation. Attend project meetings and review materials in a timely manner. Support project document reviews including User Requirement Briefs (URB), Design specifications, equipment Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and Commissioning Protocols. Support new system and equipment start-up activities (i.e. ensure handover for commissioning team to Site Operations team). Schedule Site Operations attendees for new equipment/system training. Ensure that project teams properly communicate and coordinate construction impacts with Site Operations and key stakeholders. Provide communication to Site Operations when project areas have been taken offline and when they have come back online with completed work. Provide guidance for reliability project deliverables, including equipment master data, maintenance plans, work instructions and LOTO's for projects. Prepare status dashboards, inspect equipment, review plans and specifications for projects. Take ownership of the Turn Over Package (TOP) requirements and responsibility for TOP acceptance. Resolve roadblocks or escalate issues, as necessary, using the Project Handover Governance Process. Prioritize work by determining how much time is spent on a project and performing the work under limited direction. Develop solutions to complex problems that require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity and innovativeness. Effectively communicate and collaborate with all functional areas and divisions involved in a project, including Manufacturing, Research and Development, Plant Engineering, Design and Construction, Quality, and stakeholders. Seek feedback to understand and deliver on customer requirements. Support and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
BS or BA in an Engineering/Facility related field or Project Management, or equivalent relevant experience. Minimum of 10 years experience in design engineering, commissioning, facilities management, utilities operations, maintenance program management. Experience working on large capital projects as part of the project team, with the ability to review construction documents and provide ongoing design feedback. Proven track record of developing practical solutions for a variety of complex problems and initiatives. Proven track record of successfully deploying new technology solutions to operations teams. Experience in design, construction, commissioning or operation of lab buildings required. Extensive knowledge of utility equipment, including large chillers, steam boilers, air compressors, and pumping systems, is highly desired. Experience with GMP maintenance operations, document control, processing, and repair is preferred. Proficiency in reading design drawings, technical schematics, plans, and specifications is strongly preferred. Experience with Lean/Six Sigma business process improvement methodologies is strongly preferred. Knowledge of applicable environmental health statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances, codes, administrative orders and other operational guidelines and directives desired. Experience in the life sciences industry is highly preferred. Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to clearly present plans and outcomes to management. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills are essential. Self-motivated with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Exceptional customer service, technical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Reliable, detail-oriented, and proficient in coordinating tasks. Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $129,200.00 - $240,00.00 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
