JOB SPECIFICS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have the ability to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions. Must have own means of transportation; individuals operating a motor vehicle for county business must possess a valid driver's license.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous work experience with Washington County Traffic Operations
  • Previous paid experience in temporary traffic control
  • Experience installing/repairing traffic control signs
  • Work experience with parking lot striper, line removal equipment, Thermal heater, one-ton truck, Push mower, weed whip, drill impact

SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top-scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.

ANTICIPATED HIRING RATE: $17.01 - $18.31 Hourly

HOURS / DAYS: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs.

JOB SUMMARY

This is skilled work in performing manual labor under supervision in the Traffic Engineering and Traffic Operations Section. Work is reviewed in progress and on completion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Road maintenance experience desirable.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs general sign construction, installation, and maintenance, including, installation, removal, cleaning, and straightening;
  • Assists in the set-up, maintenance, and removal of work zone traffic control, in conformance with state and county standards, including placement of traffic cones, barrels, signs, barricades, flashers, delineators, temporary striping, tapes, and paints;
  • Wears correct work zone apparel as directed by supervisor;
  • Ensures that work zone traffic control devices are kept clean and in good working order;
  • Installs highway pavement messages using various materials. This work includes the application of marking material, application of retro-reflective glass beads, cleaning message templates, re-coating message templates, mixing traffic paints, and washing and cleaning vehicles and equipment;
  • Documents daily activities by using timesheets, work orders, asset management system and inventory control system;
  • Operates county vehicles for traffic operations including sedans, pickup trucks, 1-ton trucks, message truck, sign truck, bucket truck, and follow-up truck;
  • Performs manual labor and operates equipment in the installation of traffic signs including digging holes with a hand shovel, using a hydraulic post puller, drill, grinder, drill press, and Sawzall.
  • Performs manual labor for striping and message crew including loading and unloading paint, beads, templates, equipment;
  • Assists in all duties of the Traffic Engineering and Traffic Operations Section.

Perform other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is 85% outside, 15% inside. Includes lifting up to 75 pounds with or without assistance. Exposure to vapor and solvents varies by assignment. Equipment includes but is not limited to telephone, cellular phone, 2-way radio, hand and power tools and painting/striping equipment, hydraulic post puller, automatic transmission pick-up, 2-ton truck. Duties include being able to perform the following movements on a frequent to continual basis: walking, lifting, bending, turning/twisting, kneeling, squatting, climbing, reaching out, reaching up, grasping, pinching and finger manipulation. Additional physical/mental requirements may not be listed above, but are inherent in performing the position's essential functions.
