Position Detail:

We currently have an opening for an experienced Storeroom Specialist for this role based in Northfield, MA. This is a unionized position within the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

The Storeroom Specialist reports to the Sr. Operations Manager and supports the Northfield, Cabot and Turners Falls locations in operating and maintaining the equipment for the Northern Assets utilizing strong safety and environmental awareness with a high level of attention to detail. Will manage, monitor and ensure the efficient and reliable operation of the storeroom and its contents, perform inventory, purchasing, receiving, shipping and handling of items, timely coordination and procurement of resources/and parts needed for periodic outages, research for compatible parts required for replacement, and daily collaboration and support of the Maintenance and Operations department to ensure efficient operation of the facilities.

Pay rate: $34.38/hr

Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:



  • Manage supply and inventory operations to support MA Hydro, ensuring material availability for planned and unplanned activities and maintain maximum/minimum stock.
  • Oversee procurement, purchasing, and accounting functions, including invoice processing, inventory tracking, blanket orders and monthly fuel tax filings.
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Accounting to ensure efficient purchasing and account receiving processes.
  • Utilize Maximo (CMMS) to track inventory, create purchase requisitions, receive invoices, create and close out work orders, identify obsolete inventory, and allocate write-offs to the appropriate accounting records, as well as other tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, environmental regulations and safe work practices.
  • Operate and maintain forklifts, fuel dispensing equipment, and fleet vehicles, including testing, tracking inspections and registrations; unload trucks.
  • Monitor all fuel levels daily and procure as needed.
  • Perform environmental hazardous waste management, regulatory inspections, and compliance reporting.
  • Support maintenance activities, outages, and capital projects by coordinating with Operations, Engineering, Regulatory Compliance and Health & Safety teams to plan and procure parts and resources.
  • Participate in regular meetings, communicate inventory updates, and respond to emergency warehouse support needs.
  • Maintain records, generate reports, and optimize inventory processes to enhance efficiency and reliability.
  • Provide general support, including snow plowing and maintenance outage assistance.
  • Identify and assist with plans to mitigate facility hazards and ensure compliance with PPE policies.
  • Manage shipping, receiving, and vendor pickups for plant operations.
  • Oversee company credit card use in accordance with established policies.
  • Conduct regular inspections of fuel tanks, vapor recovery systems, and hazardous material storage.
  • Schedule and coordinate inspections of electrical protective tools and equipment.
  • Must maintain all licenses required for position.
  • Responds to emergencies or unanticipated warehouse support needs outside of normal working hours.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned;
  • Comply with all FirstLight policies and procedures.


Job Qualifications / Skills


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of experience working in a warehouse environment including demonstrated knowledge of warehouse functions and supply chains.
  • Basic knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
  • Experience interpreting data, readings, and results of equipment checks to identify equipment problems.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Maximo or similar maintenance management system applications, work management systems and inventory software.
  • Must have a valid DOT Medical Card for Hoisting & Federal Motor Carriers Administration.
  • Must have Hoisting License 1C for Forklift or be eligible to obtain within 3 months.
  • Must have MA Driver's License Class D.
  • Highly organized self-starter with strong planning and multitasking capabilities.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and effective in team environments.
  • Must have a positive team attitude when working with other team members.
  • Basic computer skills in company business applications.
  • Flexibility to work overtime or respond to urgent needs as required.

Physical Requirements



  • Capable of frequently standing, walking, balancing, sitting, reaching, climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, stacks, etc.), bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, crawling, kneeling, grasping, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), feeling, talking and hearing for prolonged periods.
  • Must be physically capable of performing demanding work at various heights.
  • Exposed to hazards associated with hydro power plants such as working underground and in confined spaces. Also subject to external environmental conditions such as cold, heat, noise and working near high voltage equipment.
  • Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-faced respirators, fall protection equipment, hard-hat, safety shoes, safety glasses, etc.;
  • Required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret items such as, but not limited to, instruments, gauges, and manuals.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment as well as the ability to write and/or type.
