Job Description

General Overview:

As a key member of the Strategic Sourcing function, the Senior Manager, Global Source-to-Order (S2O) Process Excellence role will support and lead initiatives to strengthen Strategic Sourcing capabilities in areas such as process improvement, policies and governance, technology assessment and implementation, analytics, third-party risk management, contract management, supplier relationship management, competitive bidding (RFx and e-auctions), and training and development activities. This role will work cross-functionally with Strategic Sourcing and the broader organization to understand business priorities and needs and define specific initiatives, aligned with industry best practices, to deliver value to the business. In addition, the incumbent is expected to identify and drive the optimization of internal sourcing processes, workflows and interfaces to maximize stakeholder value.

The position is based in our Boston, MA location. The role is global and may require some travel to other Vertex facilities to establish/maintain key business stakeholder relationships as well as to support specific strategic initiatives.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support the design, implementation and continuous improvement of global Source to Order (S2O) processes to enhance the value of the Strategic Sourcing organization.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to identify and support improvement initiatives, project strategies, goals and priorities.
  • Support the department's Buying Channel optimization strategy in collaboration with the functional Strategic Sourcing teams.
  • Support development of the department's Gen AI strategy and roadmap for ongoing value and efficiencies in collaboration with Strategic Sourcing teams and internal Digital Technology and Engineering (DTE) organization.
  • Support development of the department's supplier relationship management program that includes executive business reviews, developing/updating action plans, defining success metrics and monitoring progress against KPIs.
  • Identify and introduce best practices and better ways of managing work and creating processes that support advancing our strategic priorities.
  • Establish and maintain internal networks to increase communication, knowledge sharing, and engagement to enhance and improve business processes.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proficient understanding of sourcing, procurement and AP processes as well as industry best practices in areas such as procurement technology, supplier risk management, contract management, supplier relationship management, stakeholder management and sourcing market intelligence.
  • Proficient understanding of leading Source-to-Pay processes and systems covering third-party risk management (e.g.: Process Unity), contracts management (e.g.: iCertis), sourcing and e-procurement (e.g.: Coupa), invoicing and payables (Oracle EBS); Ability to teach other colleagues, as needed.
  • Proficient business partnering acumen to develop trusting and influential relationships with stakeholders, understand business objectives and challenges, collaborate on strategic and operational plans and drive business outcomes.
  • Proficient analytical capabilities (data analysis and benchmarking research) as well as PowerPoint skills.
  • Proficiency working with data analytical/reporting tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, etc.
  • Proficient project management and team building skills; Able to create detailed project plans, including an understanding of dependencies as well as critical path elements for larger, more complex projects
  • Proficient communication and presentation skills, able to clearly articulate opinions in concise and persuasive manner, comfortable speaking in front of groups and/or leading meetings.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to support several projects while ensuring deliverable are fully met on-time, including more complex and involved projects.
  • Thoughtful and active listener, able to think quickly and effectively articulate points of view.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Typically requires 8+ years of sourcing and procurement experience, ideally several within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

Flex Eligibility Status:

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2. On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
