GENERAL SUMMARY
The Safety Intern will support the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) team in promoting a safe and compliant workplace within a manufacturing environment. This role provides hands-on experience in workplace safety programs, compliance with OSHA regulations, and risk reduction strategies. The intern will assist in conducting safety audits, implementing training programs, and improving safety processes to ensure a culture of continuous improvement in workplace safety.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
- Assist in performing safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
- Support the development and implementation of safety training programs for employees, including PPE usage, emergency procedures, and hazard communication.
- Participate in incident investigations and help identify root causes and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for various manufacturing processes and recommend risk mitigation strategies
- Assist with maintaining and updating safety records, policies, and reports.
- Collaborate with production teams to improve ergonomic conditions and minimize workplace injuries.
- Participate in Safety Committee meetings and contribute to safety initiatives.
- Assist in tracking and analyzing safety data, including injury reports and near-miss incidents.
- Support emergency preparedness efforts, including fire drills and evacuation procedures.
- Conduct research on the best practices in manufacturing safety and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Pursuing a degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong interest in workplace safety and compliance in a manufacturing environment.
- Basic knowledge of OSHA regulations and general workplace safety principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with employees at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Willingness to be hands-on in a manufacturing setting and engage with production teams.
WORK HOURS
- Part-time, flexible schedule. A minimum of 15 - 30 hours per week is expected during the active school year.
- Work times are flexible, but initially must occur between 7 am and 4 pm, Monday thru Friday. As internship progresses, work times may be considered outside the boundaries aforementioned.
EMPLOYMENT DATES
- Start spring of 2025.
- Exit date will depend on the Intern's performance. The minimum expectation is through the end of the summer 2025 with the potential of working during academic year.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Physical demands are typical of an office position including extended periods of sitting, extensive use of a personal computer and telephone.
- Position requires movement around the facilities.
- Occasional handling of material and components
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal manufacturing and office environment. When working occasionally in some shop areas, personal protection equipment (PPE) will be recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses w/side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron and boots). Must have the ability to support extended business hours to meet customer business needs.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
DeZURIK offers a competitive hourly rate in the $21.77 to $23.33 range, based on experience and requirements of the role.
