Senior Cultural Resources Specialist

Support clients with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and Alaska Historic Preservation Act (AHPA) compliance and coordination activities. This may include: agreement document preparation, finding of effect recommendations, consultation planning, fieldwork, and associated reporting. The successful candidate may also serve as a task or project manager.

Candidates should be familiar with Section 106 of the NHPA; the AHPA; fieldwork planning, execution, and documentation; preparation of state and federal land access permits; Quality Control review processes; interpretation of field data; and the regulatory framework for cultural resource management in Alaska. The successful candidate should be familiar with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other environmental regulations that pertain to cultural resources. The successful candidate will be familiar with cultural resources management; research and documentation; fieldwork and technical writing; and consultation with tribal entities and diverse stakeholders.

Candidates must be available for fieldwork and travel throughout Alaska and be experienced in leading field crews. The candidate may be required to lead or participate in Phase I, II, or III surveys, excavation, and archaeological monitoring.

We'll also count on the Senior Cultural Resources Specialist to:

• Develop and monitor tasks, schedules, and cost estimates, and assess applicable requirements and processes for cultural resource projects
• Provide technical expertise to project teams and clients
• Plan, organize, and supervise the work of junior professionals and technicians as needed
• Serve as Project Manager or Task Lead as needed
• Perform other duties as needed

The successful candidate will work independently and may assist senior scientists on larger projects. They must also commit to professional ethics standards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of Alaska-based cultural resources experience.
• Experience with GPS devices.

• Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History or closely related field
• A minimum of 10 years Archaeological experience, a minimum of 5 years experience in planning, managing and executing archeological investigations
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Word and Excel
• Proven ability to manage multiple field crews
• Excellent communication and client interaction skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Requires ability to travel
• Successful candidates must be familiar with field study design and documentation, regulatory framework for cultural resource management, and GIS utilities
• Must be able to handle cultural resources in a variety of geographic settings throughout the US
