Position Summary

The Certification Engineer has mastery of the requirements to certify/class manned diving and hyperbaric systems. The Certification Engineer technically manages the necessary activities of certification/classing such as the identification of critical equipment/systems, development of plan of actions and milestones (POA&M), the review of required submittals to approval authority, assist in the development of the project's testing program, and the development of technical manuals.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL:



  • Detailed knowledge of certification/classing requirements and processes for manned subsea systems.
  • Works closely with the project's System Engineer and Lead Engineer to define certification/classing requirements and methods to verify and/or validate those requirements.
  • Interacts with Customer certification/classing authority.
  • Represents program/project during the conduct of surveys and/or audits by Customer or third-party surveyors.
  • Assists with performing audits and surveys of program/project processes and procedures to ensure compliance with certification/classing requirements/rules.
  • Assists in bid and proposal efforts by providing cost estimations and input to baseline schedule data.
  • Reviews technical data packages as they are developed to ensure compliance with certification/classing requirements/rules.
  • Develops specific procedures/processes required to ensure compliance with certification/classing requirements/rules.
  • Makes independent decisions to resolve audit/survey findings.
  • Evaluates supplier capability to provide required products, services, and objective quality evidence to support Certification/classing requirements.
  • Occasionally works outside normal working hours.
  • Some domestic and international travel may be required, including shipboard operations.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:



  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution or related professional experience.
  • 5 to 10 years of practical experience in marine/ocean engineering, or with portfolio related systems.
  • 2 or more years of experience with the application of Classification Society Rules and/or U.S. Government (Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force, NASA) Certification requirements.
  • Ability to obtain a United States Government Department of Defense Security Clearance (active clearance preferred).
  • Demonstrated and well-developed leadership qualities.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and technical writing skills.
  • Able to provide interpretation of technical specifications, requirements, standards, rules.

DESIRED:



  • Advanced degree in Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering or a related field, from an accredited institution.
  • Strong communication, organizational and technical writing skills, including ability to effectively document, convey, and present certification/classing concepts and products to team members, third party reviewers, and customers.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the marine industry, including fielding Shipboard systems and associated portfolio technologies.
  • Multi-year experience with manned subsea systems such as surface supplied diving, recompression/decompression chambers, manned underwater vehicles, or manned space systems.
