What you will do
Role Overview:

The Transaction Tax Associate, in conjunction with the Sr. Transaction Associate and Tax Director, will be responsible for planning, compliance, and audits associated with EDPR's transaction tax obligations.

Main responsibilities:

  • Prepare required sales & use, Canada GST/PST/HST tax returns and payments timely.
  • Review transaction tax provisions in contracts with legal, O&M teams, suppliers and service providers for appropriate terms.
  • Manage transaction tax audits with governmental taxing authorities and communicate lessons learned.
  • Initiate reverse audits and improve gap areas.
  • Maintain and upgrade, as applicable, the Vertex Sales/Use tax software.
  • Work closely with cross functional business teams to provide transaction tax support, guidance, and tax estimates related to financial models.
  • Provide monthly review and reconciliation of the transaction tax general ledger accounts.
  • Research and discern tax statutes and applying them in daily business activities (Tax technical memos or Tax estimate templates)
  • Provide training to other EDPR NA employees that enter information in the ERP software system and validate the interaction of the Vertex Sales/Use system.
  • Initiate business process improvements when needed.
  • Tax project support and additional duties as required.

What are we looking for
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Accounting.
  • 4-5 years of experience including 2+ years in indirect transaction tax, including compliance, audits, contract review, and tax research.
  • CPA preferred.
  • In depth understanding of accounting principles
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (knowledge of complex functions and formulas)
  • Energy industry experience preferred.
  • Understanding of Microsoft products and/or complementing products. (Preferred)
  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise. (Preferred).


Travel:

Up to 10%

  • Speech/Reading: Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently and deliver a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
  • Lifting: Ability to lift items weighing up to 10 pounds
  • Vision/Hearing: Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
  • Safety: Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary
