The expected hiring range for this position is:

$24.59-$31.78.

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such the scope and responsibilities of the position, qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.

This position is not eligible for relocation assistance, referral bonus program and sponsorship assistance.

About the Role:

Fermilab is seeking a Technician II with experience in fabricating, setting up, calibrating, operating, testing, repairing, and modifying a variety of electrical-electronic and/or mechanical equipment, systems and devices, or performs ES&H duties including waste disposal, and radiological surveys.

What your day-to-day as a Technician II at Fermilab will look like:

  • Fabricating, setting up, operating, testing, repairing, and/or modifying a wide variety of moderatelycomplex electrical/electronic and/or mechanical equipment, systems, and devices forLaboratory projects/equipment in the assigned area, based on drawings, diagrams andschematics.
  • Assisting in construction and assembly of experiment and support equipment. Prepares and tests equipment for operation.
  • Writing procedures for all finished work. Enters relevant work information into a databaseand/or personal logbook.
  • Producing reports as assigned. Electronically prepares and compiles technical data andsafety records for equipment using databases, spreadsheets, and other appropriate computing software and programs.
  • Providing moderately complex technical support and maintenance for a wide variety ofinstruments and equipment in the assigned area. Troubleshooting problems and conducting repairs as needed.
  • Responding to operational and emergency requirements. Required to work off-hour shiftsor respond to emergency call-ins.
  • Procuring and maintaining inventories of small parts, supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Assisting in the implementation and design of equipment and systems for area ofassignment. Drives quality in all job aspects. May assists in the design and developmentof equipment and systems.
  • Providing guidance to less experienced technicians. As assigned, may serve as shiftsupervisor for specific project or task.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Abiding by and being responsible for performing all duties in accordance with allenvironmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

Skills and Attributes for Success:

  • HS degree (or technical certificate or equivalent)
  • 4+ years general experience

Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of electrical, mechanical and/orES&H technology concepts, practices, and procedures from extensive experience oracademic study that is relevant to assigned area.
  • May be required to legally operate a government vehicle.

Physical Activity and Work Conditions
Human Factors: Heavy Lifting, Mental Concentration, Walking, Sitting, Standing, Tight Work Schedule, Repetitive Motion

  • Ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders and stand for up to 4-hours per day.
  • Work in controlled radiation areas, underground enclosures and confined spaces, as needed.
  • Ability to work occasional overtime on short notice in response to operational and emergency requirements.
  • Ability to legally operate cars and light trucks.
  • Ability to meet Oxygen Deficiency Hazard (ODH) and radiation worker requirements.

Please note that the described work arrangement is subject to change based on business needs and is not guaranteed to be final.

  • Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Batavia office.
