Role Summary

The Senior Quality Engineer - Craftsmanship is a key role within the Quality and Reliability team responsible for ensuring that the sensory experience and design execution of our products live up to our brand's promise. The emotional connection which bonds customer to product comes through class-leading sensory interaction, both overt and unarticulated. Within this role, you can expect to be heavily involved in the pre-production and production build phases defining and aligning subjective sensory inputs into objective engineering requirements. You will facilitate the identification and refinement of builds to implement world-class execution, and coordinate key stakeholders to drive best-in-class vehicle-level craftsmanship.

This role is dynamic, fast-paced, and multi-faceted where success is dependent upon operating and collaborating cross-functionally throughout the business. This extremely varied and exciting role allows you to participate in all areas of the design and development process and directly affect the product and customer experience.


Responsibilities

  • Ensure Static and Dynamic attributes deliver to the highest level of Vehicle Craftsmanship utilizing Optic, Haptic, Acoustic, and Olfactic senses
  • Interact with design, perceived quality, engineering, manufacturing, and supplier quality to establish Root Cause Analysis and define trends
  • Communicate and demonstrate Risk Analysis and avoidance through Cross Functional Team collaboration
  • Conduct daily audits and leadership status review
  • Define enhancements to demerit target score
  • Engage in competitive benchmarking
  • Integrate and share solutions with Perceived Quality team
  • Continuously improve quality audit processes and procedures
  • Interface with cross functional teams on audit methodology and calibration
  • Drive issue resolution from discovery through validation / closure

Qualifications

  • 4 Year Technical degree in one of the following Disciplines: Product Design, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering and/or 10+ years of equivalent Experience
  • High aptitude for overall appearance / function
  • Critical Eye for detail
  • Knowledge in tooling and manufacturing processes
  • 5+ years' experience with Craftsmanship at an O.E.M. or Tier 1 supplier
  • Experience utilizing Root Cause analysis Processes
  • Ability to Lead Cross Functional Teams
  • Ability to Sort, summarize and cross reference data sets utilizing a variety of software including Excel and JIRA
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing / production environment
  • Visual Color Aptitude
  • Basic knowledge of CATIA
  • Basic understanding of GD&T
  • Ability to drive and otherwise operate a vehicle
  • Ability to travel

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range for Illinois Based Applicants: $98,500 - $123,100 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
