Make & Ship Supervisor, 1st Shift

JOB SCOPE/ SUMMARY:

  • Supervise make and ship employees to include: providing guidance, training and annual performance reviews

  • Enter and update status of finished goods, materials and shipped products using computerized records system

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ability to safely operate forklift, reach truck, and rider jack to stock, down stock, and rotate dated product by stock number to correct warehouse and/or trailer destination.

  • Train new employees, assign tasks, and check work for completeness and accuracy and adherence to departmental standards, practices and standard operating procedures.

  • Observe, monitor, and coordinate the workflow and operational make and ship tasks performed by operators during a work shift according to established procedures.

  • Inspect possible inventory damaged goods and products that are ready for shipment; Check that all product ready to ship is properly loaded, truck-checked, and reported for pick up.

  • Operate wands or scanner guns to detect errors in inbound shipments; Receive and note all discrepancies on inbound freight accurately.

  • Review manufacturing schedule reports to determine weekly and daily equipment needs and provide appropriate information to carriers.

  • Coordinate equipment shipments and deliveries with carriers and maintain supply of appropriate equipment on hand at all times.

  • Inspect the stack train trailers to ensure proper rotation of inventory in compliance with first in, first out program.

  • Inspect outbound trailers to detect defects, including holes in the floor or ceiling of the trailer and log in and monitor containers and trailer to insure proper rotation and avoid detention fees.

  • Ability to communicate effectively over the phone with department representatives, and carriers on all pertinent information.

  • Ability to work independently and manage the Make and Ship process effectively.

Education and Experience

  • Education attainment equivalent to high school graduation plus 4 years experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Considerable experience in receiving, shipping and inventory control functions

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of inventory control, warehouse operations and quality control practices

  • Knowledge of basic math and units of measure

  • Ability to operate a forklift, reach truck, rider jack, and battery charger.

  • Ability to accurately read and write legibly; follow work instructions, work orders and safety procedures

  • Ability to move stock from floor onto pallets and properly block and brace loads

  • Knowledge of Make and Ship workflow, operational tasks, and standard operating procedures

  • Knowledge of proper loading techniques and stacking procedures and inventory rotation procedures

  • Skill in using a computer to enter or review data, and correspond with co-workers.

  • Ability to assign, train, coordinate and review the work of Make and Ship Operators

  • Ability to operate a scanner and perform all transaction types

Special Requirements

  • Ability to lift 70 lbs and perform wide range of motion while working such as kneeling, crouching or reaching

  • Must be able to complete certification in the safe operation of warehouse equipment
