Job Summary |
This is a three-year limited term appointment. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds.
Dr. April Smith, the Director of the Research on Eating Disorders and Suicidality (
REDS)laboratory at Auburn University, is hiring a full-time
Research Assistant to work on aNational Institute of Mental Health R01 supported study focusing on understanding the physiological, behavioral, and psychological mechanisms linking anorexia nervosa, suicide ideation, and suicide attempts.
This position will assist Dr. Smith with all aspects of running the research study including planning and managing study protocols and logistics, collecting data, following up with participants, and scheduling participants. Opportunities for mentorship in conference submissions and manuscript writing will be supported.

Essential Functions |
- Collects, records, and processes data related to research study procedures (obtaining informed consent, scheduling, conducting assessments, follow-up, etc.)
- Assists with the development of research plans and protocols, supervises undergraduate research assistants, and assists with logistical considerations including materials and labor needs (e.g., assisting with IRB documentation)
- Monitors budget and grant funding and ensures expenditures are within specifications and in line with spending projections; may research, write, submit, and/or administer grants and proposals for submission.
- May assist in the preparation of research results for publication or presentation at conferences to include assisting in literature reviews and assisting in the writing of results and discussions.
- May instruct students and/or supervise others' research in area of expertise.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Psychology, Neuroscience, or closely related field and no experience.

- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with study personnel.
- Ability to handle sensitive clinical data from participants.

- Previous research experience. This position is ideal for someone wanting to go to graduate school in a health-related field.

- This position is renewable for up to three years and preference will be given to a postbac who can commit to at least two years.
- At least 2 semesters of research experience, or equivalent
- Experience with Qualtrics, REDCap, and statistical packages (e.g., SPSS, R) preferre
- Knowledge of other software/programs used by the lab (Microsoft Office/Word/Teams, Endnote, Box, etc.)
- Enthusiasm for the lab's research topics
- Prior experience with physiological research or large- scale longitudinal data, Python, and SQL are a plus, but not required.
