We are looking for a Maintenance Coordinator to oversee and provide general maintenance supervision and repair activities at our Blue Creek Mine in Berry, Alabama. About the Role: The Maintenance Coordinator's primary objective is to maintain and repair underground mining equipment, ensuring high availability and operational efficiency to support Continuous Miner section operations. This role requires technical expertise in mining equipment maintenance, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced underground environment. Responsibilities:
- Follow all applicable State and Federal safety regulations and Company-issued safety policies.
- Utilize manpower and materials efficiently to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair equipment issues.
- Develop and lead a motivated team to maintain high equipment availability and reliability.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise maintenance activities for the Continuous Miner section, including personnel, equipment, and materials.
- Ensure compliance with all MSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance to reduce equipment downtime.
- Conduct equipment inspections, audits, and performance assessments, reporting issues and implementing corrective actions.
- Provide training and mentorship to maintenance personnel, enhancing technical and safety skills.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Stay current on emerging technologies, industry best practices, and equipment upgrades to enhance maintenance strategies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Who You Are:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or a related field preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in underground coal mining, with a focus on Continuous Miner section maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of Continuous Miner equipment, shuttle cars, roof bolters, feeder breakers, and related systems.
- Proficient in troubleshooting electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems in Continuous Miner sections.
- Valid Alabama Mine Foreman Certificate preferred.
- Experience with Joy Faceboss-2 control systems preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office for documentation and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications for Continuous Miner Section Maintenance:
- Experience with Joy, Sandvik, or Komatsu Continuous Miners and associated control systems.
- Strong knowledge of troubleshooting PLCs, electrical components, and hydraulic systems in Continuous Miner equipment.
- Familiarity with high-voltage power systems in underground mining applications.
- Experience implementing condition-based maintenance programs for Continuous Miner sections.
- Understanding of ventilation and dust control requirements specific to Continuous Miner operations.
- Proven track record in reducing downtime and increasing equipment availability in a Continuous Miner production setting.
Environment and Safety:
- Improve safety standards through meetings, safety interactions, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with State, Federal, and Company safety policies and work procedures.
- Maintain a high level of safety performance through effective communication and monitoring.
- Report and investigate accidents, near misses, and equipment failures, ensuring corrective action.
- Promote environmental awareness and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Physical Requirements - Underground:
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces.
- Must be able to sit for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
- Must be able to walk for up to 4 hours at a time.
- Will need to walk through different sections of the mine with different amounts of clearance and headroom.
- Walking ability will be based on SCSR emergency evacuation plan required and approved by MSHA.
- Must be able to wear the required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.
- Must be able to bend or stoop for a full work period because of mine height.
- Must be able to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.
- Must be able to do repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have quick reflex movements of the arms and legs as well as good hand to eye coordination.
- Must be able to lift 25 to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally lift items weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Must be able to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
