COLLEGE COACH Summer Internship: Peri-operative Programs Intern

The opportunity

The College COACH summer internship is a paid program running from Monday, June 9-Friday, August 8, 2025. In addition to on-the-job training and work experience, the program includes workshops and additional development programs. College students will work 35 hours/week.

Peri-operative programs is a fast-paced environment that consists of 4 departments: Pre-op, post-anesthesia care, post-operative short stay unit and the Surgical Nurse Liaison office. Here we take care of our patients and families by providing support through all the phases of their surgical procedure

What you'll do

Responsibilities of an intern would include:

  • Setting up patient care spaces ensuring all safety equipment is available

  • Transporting patients

  • Cleaning and restocking

  • Obtaining VS and weighing patients in pre-op, escorting families between departments as needed

  • Assisting the nursing team and child life specialist as appropriate. Organizing and preparing for the next day as well.

  • Fully on-site

What you'll get

  • Peri-operative programs will provide the intern with exposure to various surgical procedures, the care provided to children during each phase of care and the ability to recognize the stress and vulnerability patients and families experience.

  • The intern will learn the importance of concise communication between the interdisciplinary departments to ensure families have the best experience possible.

  • They will learn how to find answers to questions to help patients and families feel supported.

Who you are

  • You are a college student interested working in healthcare

  • Mature

  • Aware of boundaries

  • Organized and timely

  • Ability to speak to patients and families to create a warm and friendly environment.

  • Ideally have passed their health assessment college course and can assist with obtaining pt vs weights and other tasks similar to that of a clinical assistant.

Recruitment process

  • Internship opportunities: We aim to have all summer internship opportunities posted by February 28. They will be posted on a rolling basis as managers determine their availability to host an intern.

  • Resume review & interviews: Applications will be screened, forwarded to managers as appropriate, and interviews will be scheduled.

  • Offer decision: We will follow up within one week of your interview.

  • Onboarding: Those selected for the internship program will complete onboarding by May to ensure a smooth start to the program.
