About the Job:

This entry-level position within the Cyber Security team reports to the Vice President - Information Security. The Junior Network Security Analyst will focus on security monitoring, incident response, and implementing zero-trust security principles and policies, primarily through the administration of Zscaler security solutions. This role requires a strong understanding of networking fundamentals and cybersecurity principles, as well as the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

The Cyber Security team is responsible for protecting Vulcan's information assets and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of its data. The Junior Network Security Analyst will work closely with senior security analysts, network engineers, and other IT teams to maintain a secure and resilient network environment.

What You'll Do:

Security Monitoring: Monitor security information and event management (SIEM) systems and other security tools to detect and investigate potential security threats.

Incident Response: Assist in the investigation and remediation of security incidents, including malware infections, phishing attacks, and network intrusions.

Zscaler Administration:



  • Configure and manage Zscaler Private Access (ZPA) for secure application access.
  • Administer Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) for web filtering and security.
  • Deploy and maintain Zscaler Client Connector (ZCC) on endpoints.
  • Utilize Zscaler Digital Experience (ZDX) for network performance monitoring and troubleshooting.


Threat Intelligence: Stay informed about emerging threats and vulnerabilities and contribute to the development of security policies and procedures.

Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of security incidents, procedures, and configurations.

Qualifications

Skills You'll Need:

Required Experience and Skills:



  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, HTTP, ICMP, DNS, firewalls, web proxy, VPN).
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Preferred Experience (Not Required):



  • B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience with SIEM and SOAR tools.
  • Experience with endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools.
  • Experience with browser session handling, cookie handling, HTTP response codes, HTTP verbs (GET, PUT, HEAD, POST)
  • Experience with security service edge products, hands-on experience with Zscaler products (ZIA, ZPA, ZCC, ZDX) is a plus.

  • Ability to work overtime as needed, including occasional nights and weekends.
  • Ability to participate in a rotational on-call schedule.
  • Ability to write and speak English clearly, including the ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical people.
  • Strong listening, a curious mindset and customer service skills - timely responses and actions.
  • Ability to organize work effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to perform duties with moderate supervision.
