Overview (Scope of Role)

The Technical Service & Development Specialist, CASE (Polymer Dispersions) is key to support business maintenance & growth by providing technical service to our customers and developing new business opportunities & products to new & existing customers. The individual will be responsible for application development in multiple CASE (Coatings/Construction, Adhesives, Sealants and Elastomers) applications, identifying and meeting industry needs through developing innovative and sustainable acrylic, styrene-butadiene, bio-polymers, and other dispersion chemistry solutions for key customers and in close collaboration with Marketing and Sales, Chemists, application labs and global innovation centers, and manufacturing.

The successful candidate will become part of a global team of experts, working closely across geographies to share know-how, solution expertise and leverage global customer relationships across regions while delivering the value locally and in close collaboration with the regional Sales and Technical Service & Development team and in alignment with the business priorities.

Additionally, the individual has the exciting opportunity to be part of ramping up our CASE lab at Trinseo's new Global Innovation Center in Exton, PA. The Global Innovation Center will host many of our material preparation and testing capabilities, scientific experts, engineers, and technologist that are working on new solutions across Trinseo's industry and material segments. The official opening is scheduled to be in the 2nd half of 2025. We will be transferring equipment from our current CASE lab in Michigan to our new Exton lab in 2 phases following the inauguration.

During the initial phase of the position, there will be regular visits to the Midland, MI facility over the first 3 months that could include over 50% travel to train within our current CASE lab. After this initial phase, there could be 25-50% travel to Midland, MI each month until the full CASE lab is operational at our Exton Global Innovation Center

Responsibilities

Technical Service to Customers

    Build strong relationships with our valued customers and showcase Trinseo's product portfolio and technical leadership.
  • Analyze and address customer needs with innovative solutions, product and application know-how.
  • Customer technical service troubleshooting, including running formulation and application program at Trinseo laboratories for root-cause analysis and solution recommendation.

Product/Application Development

  • Identify new market opportunities in collaboration with the commercial team and leverage your technical expertise to support developing the opportunities.
  • Collaborate with synthesis chemists, application technologists, and external partners to define and execute development programs resulting in groundbreaking product solutions for target application segments within the CASE industry.
  • Implement new products at customer sites, working closely with sales and research teams.
  • Lead technical projects and optimize resources for maximum impact.

Technology Leadership

  • Develop influential relationships with industry leaders and decision-makers.
  • Represent Trinseo CASE at technical conferences and exhibitions as an industry expert.
  • Identify and close gaps in application know-how, formulation expertise, and lab capabilities.
  • Generate and protect technology IP


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Polymer, Chemical Engineering, or related field (Master's or higher preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in technical service and/or application development within emulsion polymers or adjacent area
  • CASE industry experience strongly preferred, ideally in the area of sealants, cement, reinforcement fibers
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Customer-focused and team-oriented mindset.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites (25-50%) and Midland, MI Trinseo lab for until lab transition to Exton PA is completed.
