The internship program at Volkswagen Group of America Chattanooga Operations is intended to provide college / university students and recent graduates the opportunity to use and develop skills they have learned in the classroom by working at our state-of-the-art production facility, and to provide Volkswagen Chattanooga the opportunity to develop talent for potential future entry-level positions.

Summary

The Planning Tooling Department is responsible for ensuring high-quality, stable sheet metal components for the Body Shop, especially in new projects with global tooling suppliers like the Atlas Successor. This requires close coordination across teams to ensure parts meet drawing specifications and are properly welded.

The intern will support part sampling by reviewing measurement reports and specifications, collaborating with die-makers, measurement rooms, pilot hall specialists, and quality teams to identify priority areas for improvement. They will also assist in "parts table meetings," where specialists align on die-action plans and next steps for quality loops. Proper documentation of these processes is key to driving efficiency and achieving the best part maturity levels.

This internship offers hands-on experience in body-in-white production, quality optimization, and pre-series part validation, providing valuable insight into automotive manufacturing and tooling processes.

This position will start on June 2nd 2025 and end on Aug 8th 2025.Our internships are full-time positions (40 hours/week). Candidates will be expected to be available to work during normal business hours (Monday - Friday; exact hours will vary by position and some positions might require work on Saturdays).

To be eligible for the internship program, candidates are required to be enrolled at an accredited post-secondary educational institution or have graduated from one within 6 months prior to the start date of the internship. At this time, we are unable to consider OPT/CPT/International candidates

Responsibilities

  • Lead project management and tracking of tooling-related tasks and activities.
  • Organize and facilitate meetings with cross-functional teams.
  • Consolidate and analyze technical information from alignment meetings.
  • Document key actions and progress from quality meetings, ensuring transparency and efficiency.
  • Assist in identifying priority areas for quality improvement and ensuring follow-up actions are tracked.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of press parts and their joining processes.
  • Degree in production-related fields such as Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Management, Automotive Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering.
