  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Direct experience with tutoring services at the university level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
University Tutorial Services provides content-specific academic support to approximately 2,000 undergraduate students annually, including targeted services for students who face unique challenges. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of the Student Learning Center, the Tutoring Coordinator coordinates the day-to-day administrative operations for content-specific appointment-based and drop-in tutoring services. Job responsibilities and duties entail:

Job Category: Tutoring Operations and Procedures 60%

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of tutoring in selected subject areas; ensure the services run smoothly, meeting the needs of face-to-face and online students in a timely and professional manner.
  • Recruit, select, train, and evaluate qualified tutors. Oversee the onboarding employment process for new hires.
  • Ensure staffing is appropriate to meet student needs. Ensure that program schedules and changes are kept up-to-date on the web site and in the tutor tracking system.
  • Supervise tutors; provide ongoing guidance and support to ensure quality in tutoring sessions, including corrective employee actions and/or terminating employment. Approve timesheets bi-weekly.
  • Serve as the initial point of escalation in terms of tutoring issues and conflict resolution.
  • Facilitate the training and professional development of tutors in line with College Reading and Learning Center (CRLA) standards and practices.
  • Facilitate the submission of CRLA certification(s) and recertification(s).
  • Analyzing costs and usage data to recommend future service needs.
  • Make recommendations to leadership regarding improvement of tutoring services and tutoring strategic direction.

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of tutoring services front desk. Hire, train, and supervise front desk staff.
  • Promote and create a welcoming, accessible, and collegial learning environment at the tutoring center; assist tutors and students as needed.
  • Respond in a timely manner to inquiries about the center and its services, record concerns as required, and seek informal resolution that is satisfactory to all parties, serve as the initial point of escalation in terms of issues and conflict resolution; escalate concerns to supervisor when appropriate.

  • Represent the Student Learning Center as a member of committees; participate actively in student-focused and community-oriented campus activities.
  • Actively participate in Student Learning Center staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
